PLEASE READ AND PASS THIS ON TO OTHERS YOU KNOW WHO ARE OR COULD BE AFFECTED! -
THANKS!
SPECIAL ALERT:
FROM: THE ARIZONA STATE HORSEMEN'S ASSOCIATION
Dear Member,
ISSUE: PINAL COUNTY IS TRYING TO CHANGE ZONING FROM UNLIMITED TO TWO
HORSES PER ACRE. OTHER COUNTIES/CITIES WILL DO THE SAME IF IT PASSES. READ WHY
BELOW.
RECOMMENDED ACTIONS:
1) ATTEND BOTH MEETINGS (DETAILS BELOW). The only sure fire way to defeat
this effort if for hundreds of horse lovers to show up. Make it standing room
only
2) SUBMIT NON-EMOTIONAL COMMENTS THAT CONTAIN POSITIVE REASON(S) WHY THIS
SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. ANGRY, NASTY OR STRONG LANGUAGE WILL WORK AGAINST US. BE
CAREFUL WITH YOUR COMMENTS.
Submit your comments to Pinal County:
http://co.pinal.az.us/PlanDev/ZoningOrdinance/Index.asp
If passed, the new zoning will mark the end of a way of life in Pinal
County for the Rural/Agricultural Lifestyle.
You may read the details here:
Draft ordinance:
http://co.pinal.az.us/PlanDev/ZoningOrdinance/Drafts/Drft1-082407.pdf
<http://co.pinal.az.us/PlanDev/ZoningOrdinance/Drafts/Drft1-082407pdf>
Scroll to pages 13-1,14-1,15-1,16-1 and read sections
1302.2,1402.2,1502.2,1602.2.
FAQ:
Why should I attend, spend the gas money to drive that far, take time off
work, I don't live in Pinal, I am a Hunter Jumper, I only ride in an arena, I'm
a roper, it can't happen here because___, and all other excuses not to write and
attend?
Answer:
1) Once passed this will set a precedent for other counties to follow.
2) Counties communicate with each other. (Just look at Maricopa & Pinal
P&Z Regulations)
3) P & Z Regs in most counties were established in the 1960's, almost 50
years ago. Revisions are over due
4) There is a country wide movement to remove horses from trails, arenas,
backyards.
5) Every battle we lose brings us closer to losing the entire war.
6) By 2030 the population in the US is expected to grow by 72,000,000 in
the South and West. Guess who that affects? ALL ARIZONA HORSEMEN!!!!!!!
7) The New 2008 Zoning Regulations will have to be re visited again in 5
to 10 years. If we "compromise" now where will we go when it comes up again?
8) This issue is just the tip of the iceberg. Flies, manure, dust, algae,
odors, abuse, neglect and more are right around the corner

Odds are pretty good that she has joined their broodmare band. They stand
Cromwell in AZ and File Away in UT.
Steve Zimmerman (they are brothers, I believe) is the manager for both horses.
He can be reached at 801-372-3575.
Good luck!

Trainer was Jon Phil Zimmerman if anyone knows him. Looks like he's
running at Yavapai this summer.

Talking Points:
Substantially all of the Arizona horse and dog racing industry have joined
together to support the changes to the racing statutes included in HB 2694 to
provide needed assistance to Arizona's racing industry. The industry feels the
changes will assist in the improvement of live racing in Arizona.
Ø The bill would allow for the elimination of the electronic "double hop"
on wagering information. The current statutes require that all simulcast wagers
accepted at Arizona racetrack be transmitted to the out of state computer hub
operated for the Arizona racetrack and then to the track that is running the
live races. This causes an unnecessary delay when an added step is necessary in
the transmission of wagers. Arizona bettors have been denied the opportunity to
place their wagers due to the electronic computer delay. This bill will simply
allow wagers to be transmitted directly into sending tracks.
Ø The bill would modify provisions for wagering on simulcast racing at off
track wagering facilities. This bill would allow wagers to be accepted at the
off track wagering sites on all races being offered at the permittee racetrack
site. Currently, in order for wagering to take place at an Arizona off track
wagering site those races must be shown as a part of the live video signal at
the off track wagering site.
Ø Wagers are being accepted openly by telephone from patrons in Arizona.
This bill would make it explicitly illegal to accept wagers by telephone from
persons within the state of Arizona. Currently a large amount of wagering takes
place from Arizona residents with none of the revenue going to Arizona horsemen,
dogmen or racetracks.
Thanks for your help.

Well, two of the ostriches were non-starters (sat down in the
starting gate) leaving the lone ostrich with a jockey to win the race.
And how cute was the baby camel running 2nd to his (presumed) mama in
two races?
Saturday is alternative racing day at Turf Paradise. If you have't
been before, it is hilarious to watch people attempt to ride - much
less race - ostriches. :-D

No mules though. That makes me sad. I love the mules. :-(
