Re: [azhorseracing] I need some advice from the experts...

Hi Heather,

Interesting subject! I think you'll get alot of interesting answers!! LOL

You may try to contact the clerk of scales (they are kinda like the keeper of
the jockeys in the jock's room) Maybe they could give you an 'in' to some that
you could speak with. They run at Tucson, Prescott and Phoenix in Arizona.

Good luck. Anne

Subject: [azhorseracing] I need some advice from the experts...

Hello,
My name is Heather Tytor and I am currently a graduate student
at ASU working to get my master's degree in Sport Psychology. To
achieve this goal I need to complete a thesis study. What I have
selected to focus on deals with the horse racing community, mainly
horse jockeys. Most of the research that I have located states that
horse jockeys are more prone for eating disorders due to the high
demands of low weight in their sport. What I want to do with my
study is to prove that the previous statement is false. My dilemma
is that I am not a part of the horse racing community here in AZ nor
do I know anyone that is. I was looking on the internet and I
happened to run across Arizona's HBPA. I was wondering if you could
possibly help me. Basically all my study would consist of is horse
jockeys filling out questionnaires and possibly an interview
depending on the results of the questionnaires. There would be
complete anonymity and confidentiality so no names would be used for
anyone who participates. My main concern is the probability of being
able to produce this experiment. Any help you could give me would be
great even if it is just pointing me in the right direction to
someone who could help me as well. What I really want to know is my
chances are of getting the cooperation of the horse jockeys/horse
racing facility to become participants in my study. I am also
looking for someone that may be able to help me in acquire
participants because again I am an unknown face in the horse racing
community. I am really excited about this experiment, if I can
complete it it will be the first of its kind, and hopefully put the
horse racing community on an even higher pedestal. Any help or
advice you could give me would be much appreciated!
Thank You!
