Re: [azhorseracing] AZ Stallions VS CA Stallions

As a stallion owner, I'm not crazy about giving away breedings to anything that
comes down the road because ultimately it will sink my horse's stats and it's
always the stallion that gets blamed for failure. Unfortunately, nowadays
numbers are considered "everything" so we still need to get as many mares as we
can. I know of a couple of stallions that were given away so they could get
large numbers of mares with the idea being that if just one of the babies was
remotely successful, they will be able to turn away poor mares in the future. I
understand the method, but I'd like to come down somewhere in the middle if
possible. The trick is attracting the right fitting mares to the stallion so
both parties have a chance of achieving the goal - a winning racehorse. I'm
luckier than a lot of stallion owners because my horse fits a lot of different
bloodlines, so my odds of "hitting" are probably a little higher.

Free breedings - how much does that tempt the rest of you? If you
have a stallion, do you just give it away to any mare and hope you
get something, or are you picky about blacktype or even hard knockers
or are you looking for certain nicks?
