Thanks Christer, and yeah - the really great
element about junior tennis is the depth of talent there
as well as the potential for breakthrough that
exists. Clearly we are focusing on Ashley in this club,
but hope the discussions will also pinpoint other
players, especially with the potential of members from
other international sites. Bri

Hi there, I just found this yesterday. It's great
to see that there's so much interest in junior
tennis. I actually just founded a club yesterday on two
Swedish players - Sofia Arvidsson and Jenny Lindström
==>
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/lindstromandarvidsson . I know I
shouldn't be promoting other clubs but
I figure some of you might be interested.

I
met them at the US Open last year and they were very
nice. I never actually saw them play. I was just
looking for Swedes to sign my bucket hat. I also took
some pictures of other up and coming stars such as
Maria Jose Lopez, Jaslyn Hewitt, Marie-Eve Pelletier
(Go Canada!). So I'm just looking for other people to
provide news on Sofia and Jenny.

I haven't
actually seen Ashley played either but from her results,
it looks like she definitely has potential. Maybe
I'll see her play if I get to go to Wimbledon / US
Open later this year.

Christer

yeah i saw that game as well ashley played very
well putting the other player under pressure with her
great serving and good ground stoke placement. The
other player had much more powerfull ground strokes but
because of the pressure ashley kept putting on her she
wasn't able to get them in.
Yes and along with her
tennis skills she is a bit of a stunner as well!!

When Jelena got by Ashley in the semi's the final
shouldn't have been in doubt and it wasn't: Jelena in
straight sets over Sofia Arvidsson in less than one hour.
Great week for Jelena, she seemed to get stronger each
match.

Ashley fell to the number 1 seed Jelena Jankovic
in two straight sets 6-3 :: 6-4, but more fell to
herself in unforced errors. The first set was over in
just over 30 minutes, with Ashley's second serve not
as effective as Jelena's, but the second set was
more close, still controlled by Ashley with 9 more
unforced errors in the second set than Jelena. Still, good
on you Ashley and congratulations to Jelena (another
winning Jelena from Yug).

I am a long time Martina
Hingis fan, but surely offer congratulations to Jennifer
C in her victory. Again causes to relaize just how
competive the WTA is today.

In the quarter final match Ashley (4) beat
Claudine Schaul (5) in straight sets while losing in the
girl's doubles to the number one team of Perta Cetkovska
and Barbora Strycova. Ashley's semi final match is
against Jelena Jankovic (1), a tough match. Rock em
Ashley.

Ashley is seeded #4 and playing in the third
round, defeated Jane O'Donohue of Great Britian (we say
England in Canada) in striaght sets. Jane is a strong
player so this is a good win for Ashley. The girls are
on an accelerated schedule as most of the courts in
week 1 were taken up with the senior circuit. We will
update throughout, as well Ashley is invo;ved in
doubles, I'll try for an update.

I have spent time since Xmas gathering data on
latest rankings by female juniors as well as interesting
articles which I will begin to post this weekend. The
junior season is not as well defined and the players are
somewhat constrained by their age as to how many events
they play through, but we will begin with an overview
this weekend. Stay-tuned. It looks to be a great
season as well as a break-through run for several of the
junior players into the senior ranks.
Bri

Hi Josh -
Ashley is quite the player, isn't
she?
We have no formal way to contact Ashley but we know
her principal residence is now with the Sandlewood
Tennis Resorts in Wesley Chapel Flordia. I believe their
address is 5700 Sandlewood Road, but you can verify this
with their on-line web-site.
Also fyi. Ashley is
one of the selected players on the WTAPlayers web
site - I think the only junior represented. More news
is there, and more news to follow here. regards, Bri

The US Open is hte traditional closing of the
Slam season started in Australia, solidified in
England and takes its tangent at the Open. This year held
this same promise. Winners were both 20 and enroute
dispatched the older guard which usually does better in the
earlier tourneyments (faster surface, pressures of the
season?). Look at hte changes over the last three years
with the Williams sisters, Jelena, and oters coming
through. It should prove an interesting season close (I am
not sure what hte Olympics will tell us), and I
personally can't count Hingis out yet (the old lady at 19).
