Well as usual I'm about to make my lame handicaps, only so far I'm only to the
quarters.
Safina v Wozniacki
V Williams v Jankovic
Zvonareva v Dementieva
Sharapova v S. Williams
Safina and Wozniacki have the toughest draws to that point I think as both would
have to get by former Grand Slam Champions in the round of 16. Mauresmo v
Safina promises to be a good match and Mauresmo has won Wimbledon before but she
hasn't played to well in recent months and Safina seems to be on top of her game
until she gets to a GS Final.
Wozniacki has a couple of potential match ups that could be quite difficult.
She will likely fase Kirilenko and then Medina-Garrigues before facing
Kuznetzova. If one of the first two don't upset her Kuznetsova may be the
easiest match for her as Caroline's big ground strokes may be a little to much
for Kuznetzova on grass.
Venus has some potentially tough matches getting to Ivanovic but on grass not
really and I don't think Ivanovic moves well enough to beat Venus on grass. It
would take a perfect game plan.
Jankovic has a pretty easy path to the final. If Jelena loses before she runs
into Venus it will only be because Jelena lost and played poorly, not that
anyone beat her, not on grass anyway.
Zvonareva also has a pretty easy draw, as long as her ankle holds up from the
severe sprain she endured in Charleston earlier this year. Wozniak is the only
potential real threat in the round of 16.
Dementieva has a couple of potentially formidable foes or at least in the past
they would have appeared that way. Elena has an easy path to Cibulkova and
again, Dementieva's ground strokes will be too much for Dominika on the fabled
grass.
Sharapova has the toughest draw to the quarters. She could face Dulko, Petrova
and Azarenk all in a row. Dulko always plays Maria tough and nothing need be
said about how well Petrova and Azarenk will play against Maria. If she gets
through to the semi's including what will be a rubber match at Wimbledon against
Serena, she may then become unstoppable to the Championship. All depends on the
shoulder.
Serena doesn't have the easiest draw and there are a couple of potential land
mines she may have to face, specifically Hantuchova if she shows in the round of
16. Hantuchova is playing well and always seems to play well against Serena (in
spite of what a couple of the scores may say.) Hantuchova will have to get by
Zheng and Schnyder either one that could also be a land mine for Serena.
Depending on how Serena is playing during the fortnight if the wrong one (for
Serena) shows up at the right time in the round of 16, you could see Serena bow
out before the quarters.
Well that's my ramble. I'm sure Rowland will have some dissenting opinions, as
might Bri.
