With the retirement of Justine the honor falls to Maria, but the
scramble is ready to start.

Maria is clearly in a unique class, but has been beaten badly by the
williams at various times.

Anna is an opportunity player. Her play this year is not consistent
with her position, beaten too often by lesser players, but her
consistency a strength.

The Williams' - first need to decide if they are in the game.

Jelena - who says tenacity doesn't pay off. Her ranking has slipped
but she has consistently stood toe-to-toe with the big players better
than anybody.
