The results prove conclusively that Arsenal are in a serious decline and
recovery looks relatively far away, as the Gunners are having good results in
Europe , simply for they are in a group as easy as a preseason tournament ,some
people are saying that Arsenal are to concentrate on the Champions League while
actually they should concentrate to avoid more humiliation or even , God forbid
, relegation , so it is inevitable and justifiable , to lay the direct or
indirect responsibility on Wenger , due to his tactics or strategies or even
both , in my modest opinion his fatal mistake, is not keeping the continuity of
success by preparing or finding adequate and enough replacement for the retiring
or departing players. In Wenger's reign about thirty five to forty five players,
coincidently the majority of them were foreigners , came into and out of
Highbury most of them never settled down only mere visitors , on the other hand
, he does not seem to understand that the whole squad should
be the first team and not only the regular eleven and the necessary four or
five substitutes , so there should be a rotation between players to gain match
fitness and experience as well as more understanding between all the players of
the squad , he should at least give some opportunity to the reserves to take
part regularly or through substitution for enough time; in fact, except in case
of injuries , Wenger seldom makes changes before the last fifteen minutes, and
sometimes strangely he made a substitution in the last two minutes while they
were loosing, of the game and that is rarely adequate to change results or to
benefit a youngster or any player after some lay off , can any body figure how
many times Almunia for example , started a match in two years ? and this applies
to many other players which certainly , makes them frustrated and out of form ,
exactly that what makes Wenger unwilling to keep them , and incidentally most of
them are British, so now Arsenal are paying
expensively for not being able to fill adequately the vacancies left by leaving
or injured players .
I wonder why managers in England are untouchables , while there should be a
continuous monitoring and reassessment by the directors on the managers to
correct mistakes or avoid damage before it happens , I don't mean interfering
which is never acceptable , but supervision and following up , don't the
managers do that to their players , so why not they accept the same on them ?.
No one can deny the achievements of the past ten years , but after every
mountain there is a valley , and probably Wenger has past the crest of his
career with Arsenal , and every body have to realize that change is inevitable ,
so why not it comes before it is too, late or costly ? , there are good or even
better managers other than Wenger , even in the English football, where many may
have low consideration for , there are a lot of excellent options , simply Rice
may make a better choice , or even Brady , Adams , or Bould who could at least
make good assistants and keep the continuity of successful, devoted
and faithful managers , who would certainly serve Arsenal and English football
better . Can any body dare to bring a manager from the lower divisions as it
proved very successful when Graham brought from Millwall .
One last thought , could it be their new colours that make the Gunners strange
to themselves ,and unable to find out who they are , or is it the curse of the
glorious red and white ? .
