Hi, Brian: Sorry for the slow response.
The Arlington pickup scene
(http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/arlington-pickup/) is active and aimed
at straightforward Ultimate. The level of play is usually quite mixed. The
pace of games can at time be very high. Ultimate players of *all* levels and
ages are encouraged to come and play.
In winter we gather at Danehy Park in Cambridge (behind Whole Foods at Fresh
Pond). In summer (now) we play at Arlington High (usually on the upper
field, but we'll grab the turf inside the track sometimes). Maps, directions
and MBTA advice are on the website.
We often bring our children when the weather's nice, many of the regulars
have kids in the 4-10 years age span, including myself. We usually
coordinate bringing kids by email thru the group site. There are (pretty)
safe places for the kids to play in grass or ride bikes on their own.
I know of no non-kid-friendly stuff that occurs at the Arlington pickup,
except for the occasional loud swear from the field. Most of the folks know
how to reel that stuff in pretty well when kids are around, tho.
I look forward to seeing you out there!
Simon

Simon:
For those of us just coming out of hibernation, it would be great if you
could do a quick overview of:
- Level of play
- Location(s)
- Presence/absence of kids (would love to bring my 5 1/2-year-old son)
- Presence/absence of non-kid-friendly stuff (many of the players at the
old game at the Pit smoked cigarettes/other)
I'm old and slow ... and would love to get back into shape.
Best,
