Filthy conditions at the Bi-County Farm Bureau Cooperative Association Inc. in Florence, Ky., caused U.S. Marshals to seize livestock and horse feed on July 20.

During a recent inspection of the Bi-County feed mill, Food and Drug Administration investigators discovered live and dead mice and evidence of bird activity throughout the facility. FDA laboratory analysis of samples collected during the inspection confirmed the presence of rodent urine, rodent feces, rodent hairs, and rodent-gnawed holes in bags, in and around food products.

Bi-County manufactures a local brand of feed and purchases and stores commercial feeds from other feed companies. The products are sold locally to farms and stables. The following list includes products sold by Bi-County that shouldn't be fed to livestock, however equestrians who purchased commercial feeds from other feed stores around the country need not worry.

If you have purchased any of these products from this feed dealer, you should discard the feed and wash your hands thoroughly

Triple Crown officials reacted to the seizure by separating the company from the feed store.

“This feed dealer is a manufacturing facility who manufactures and sells his own store brands and purchases feeds from major feed manufacturers such as Southern States, Purina and Triple Crown,” said the press release. “This incident is in no way related to any Triple Crown manufacturing facility. Customers of Triple Crown can rest assured feeds manufactured under the Southern States/Triple Crown brands meet the highest manufacturing standards, and are not involved in any FDA action beyond the one dealer in Florence Ky."

Triple Crown products purchased from Bi-County may be returned to another Southern States/Triple Crown dealer for replacement.
