Done Croix de Fer... three times...once with 30+ degrees Celcius, twice in heavy rain...(almost snow)
The decent of CdF is definately challenging and hard work...
One time, during La Marmotte 3000 of the 5000 riders returned to Bourg d'Oisans at the top of CdF (it was really cold, even in July)... i was stupid enough to continue and finish a few hours and a few climbs later at the top of Alp d'Huez...
Never done Glandon...
Maybe the roadworks in France make the decision for you !
One advice... bring a rainjacket in case of any chance of rain..
Enjoy and take care,
Cas

Subject: [ANZA Cycling] Col du Glandon -v- Col de la Croix de Fer
Does anyone have an opinion on which is a nicer climb, the Col du Glandon or Col de la Croix de Fer? I will be coming from Bourg d'Oisans and doing the loop over both but need to decide which way to go.
I will be with very average descenders so the choice may need to be governed by which ever is the easier descent. Seems like Glandon has a sting at the top but is a straighter descent, while Croix de Fer is more twisty. Hard to tell which is steeper.
Anyone...Bueller?
