RE: ANZA visit to Tour de Langkawi

Thanks Mark for your assistance. Those who are keen for the 200km will be lead by Mr Mark Haller himself... Be prepared to follow the man...

The Tourists for the 150km ride and watch the race will stay with me...

Dear All,

As JF correctly announces the Tour De Langkawi dates have only just been finalized. (2 days ago) The original schedule put the Genting climb on day 2 of the tour and on the Chinese New Year weekend !!!!  Not surprisingly, all the teams complained and many spectators also questioned the wisdom on having the Genting Climb on the Chinese New Year.

So, much planning has already been in hand to make an ANZA Cycling annual pilgrimage to see the pros climb Genting and to have a crack at it ourselves. So, pencil in the weekend of 16th and 17th February 2008, being the weekend after Chinese New Year, and start thinking about how to enjoy climbing to the fresh air above the clouds. Within the next week I will be publishing the general plan.

So, start thinking about fun for all levels and abilities and smile at South Buona Vista and look forward to the plan.

Cheers

Mark Haller

Dear friends,

Happy new year to all !

The first event of the year has arrived, the TOUR DE LANGKAWI !

the dates have been finally confirmed and here is the proposal :

- Drive / fly at your own arrangement to KL on Friday15th feb.
- saturday 16th feb : watch the stage finish at genting Cable car / Chinese temple
option 1 : Meet at 7am in front of Mandarin Oreintal, ride in grupetto loop about total 150 km, with two climbs, but not to the top
option 2 : suggested by Mark Haller : 200km route to be announced if confirmed interest

- Sunday 17th feb : meet at 7am, ride around KL hills 75 km, go to the Tour village, lunch, and watch the final criterium

Hotel :

The recommendation is Mandarin Oriental KL, right at the bottom of KLCC. The cost is 489 MYR ++ / night / room, for twin room inclusive of car park and breakfasts. Hotel is tip top, pricey, but perfectly located so that you leave the car for the week-end.
This is where I will stay with my familly, and I can coordinate the stay for those who wish.

Other alternative : Traders hotel at about 290 MYR ++. Very good also. DIY booking.

Please let me know your confirmed interest, as we need to book the rooms with a credit card number, and cancellation will be charged.

Rgds,

JFT
