Denny, at this point it is a go for SJOT, 1 PM at WVC (remember, parking
is $2). Ron Mosley is managing the practice.
My cell phone is 408-639-0609
I'll cc Ron on this so he can keep me advised.

Norcal Opening Game! Sunday, March 4
by Denny Brown - Friday, 23 February 2007, 08:22 PM
Our first Norcal game is scheduled for Sunday, March 4 at 1pm at West Valley College in San Jose.

Please reply to this message by using the "Reply" link near the bottom of the email. That way everybody will know who is and isn't coming. You need to
be registered for this to work.

Billy, Most of "your" guys are not registered on the website yet. Please get them to sign up.

Garrett, John isn't registered either. Please get him to do likewise.

We also play March 11 in Vallejo and March 18 in Tracy. For details, see our Norcal Schedule.

Trivalley guys: You're invited to play in the early season games; Norcal regulars will have priority, of course.

Norcal update for weekend of 2/24 and 2/25
by Denny Brown - Friday, 23 February 2007, 07:36 PM
There are two possibilities if you want to work out:
  • Clyde (Fairfield Vipers) has invited us to join their "tryout"; Noon at Laurel Creek Park in Fairfield. See below for more info.
  • Jerry (San Jose OT) has invited us to join their practice; 1pm at West Valley College in Saratoga.
From Clyde: I can go check the field since its only one block from where I live.  All my players and tryout players should call on Saturday to confirm field usage. 707.322.3208. Remember that you need to wear baseball pants, sox, and cap. No shorts or sweats.

I don't have a contact number for SJOT this weekend; Jerry will be out of town. Sal, if you're willing to be the contact, please post your cell number.

I am a probable "no" for the weekend. I might make the SJOT practice late, but even that is unlikely.

Hi guys,

We're getting good response for the early season tournaments. It looks
like Ted Francis will be taking a team to the MSBL Kickoff in Las Vegas
in March. We'll have at least one team in the Roy Hobbs First Pitch
in Las Vegas in April.

I'm using some new website software this year to help me keep track
of the more than 100 names I have on various email lists. I'm trying
to make this easier on me :-) by making the system self-service.

To participate you have to register on the new site and subscribe to
those parts that you want to track. I have three main categories right
now: Norcal Antiques (35+), Trivalley Antiques (55+), and Tournament
Antiques (lots of tournaments, including Father-Son). You can subscribe
to the ones you want to keep track of.

So... how do you register? Here's the memo I sent to the regular season
guys a while back. When you register, you'll be able to get to all of
the information on who is doing what for various tournaments.

PLEASE SIGN UP! Do it now! And remember your username and password so you
can get back in when you want to.

Hi guys,

It's time to start thinking about the 2007 baseball season!

I plan to make a few changes regarding how the club is run this year.
I have found some website software that should make my life MUCH easier.
It does require that each of you do a few things to help me.

I spend a good deal of time managing email mailing lists. Adding and
deleting people from various lists. I want to quit doing that. I need
each of you to register on a new website I've created and
subscribe to the Antiques news forum on that site.

For those of you who claim to be computer illiterate, I'll include
step-by-step directions. If you have any problems, please call me
at my office and I'll walk you through the process. I really need
ALL of you to do this or it won't work right.

OVERVIEW

1) Register - to gain access to the site, which allows you to do Step 2.
2) Login for your first session, which allows you to do Step 3.
3) Enroll in the "Antiques 2007" subsite, which allows you access to
team resources.

After completing these steps, in future sessions, you'll only have
to do step 2 (Login) to gain access.

Please follow these steps and inform us of any difficulties:

1) Register to gain access to site (platform)
a) From the link:
b) Read the section "Is this your first time here?"
b) Near bottom, right hand side, click on "Create new account"
c) Enter your registration info
d) Receive confirmation email

2) Login for your first session
a) Upon receiving email, click on the link within email that confirms
your registration with the site
b) This should take you to a screen that reads "Registration has been
confirmed", Thanks, firstname lastname, -> Courses

3) Enroll in Antiques 2007
a) Click on "Courses"
b) Next screen reads "Course Categories" at the top
NOTE: Most of the entries in this list have nothing to do with
us. As you can see, the main site is for communication
           with people in my company.

If you have signed up, you'll get the memo via email a few minutes after
this one.

Hi guys,

Time to start planning for this year's baseball season. I apologize if
you get more than one of these. I combined a bunch of email lists to cast
as wide a net as possible.

We're starting to plan for this year's tournaments. For starters...

The MSBL Las Vegas Kickoff Classic will be:
    * March 10-12 for 18+, 35+, and 55+
    * March 17-19 for 25+ and 45+

The Roy Hobbs Las Vegas First Pitch will be:
    * April 14-16 for 28+, 38+ and women
    * April 21-23 for 48+, 55+, and 60+

Ted Francis asked me to see if there's enough interest in either or
both of the 55+ tournaments. I'm thinking of organizing a 60+ for
4/21-23.

So if you're interested in any of these 3, please let me know via
email as soon as you can. You don't have to commit right now, but
we'd like to get a feel for whether there's enough interest to
continue to work on it.

Note: March 10-11 is Nascar weekend in Las Vegas. If you're thinking
about that one, you should get your lodging IMMEDIATELY. Lots of things
are already sold out, and prices get jacked way up for that weekend.

Stay tuned for info on:
MSBL Las Vegas Open - Memorial Day weekend
MSBL Cal Cup (TriValley) - Early July
MSBL Carl Flowers (Woodland-Davis) - Labor Day weekend
MSBL and Roy Hobbs World Series - October and November

Also, I'm starting to recruit for a manager for the 48+ tournaments.
We need to replace Ted, who is graduating to 55+ this year. And if
any of the young guys are interested in tournaments this year, let
me know and we'll try to hook you up.

-Denny

PS: If you want me to take you off this list, just let me know. Otherwise,
you'll be seeing more of this kind of message.

I hope to be able to play part of next year, but I don’t get checked out on running until April,2007, so I don’t know if I can make it happen.  Would like to try.

Hi guys,

I just got back from my baseball & vacation trip. Now it's time to start
thinking about next year.

The annual league meeting for Norcal is this Saturday, 12/2, at the San
Ramon Mariott in San Ramon. 8:30 - 9:30 breakfast. 9:30-noon meeting.

This is the meeting in which we make the schedule for next year.

PLEASE answer ALL of the following questions ...
(Note: This is just about NORCAL 35+, not TriValley 55+.)

1. Do you want to attend the meeting with me? I'd like to get one
or two of you, especially the young guys, to participate. The team
treasury pays for the breakfast, so at least you get a free meal.
If you're interested, let me know and I'll send more details.

2. Are you planning to play next year? Full time? Part time?

3. How many games should we play next year? Last year, we played 9
games and had a couple of rainouts and a cancellation. Some teams
play every Sunday from mid March to Mid August except for holiday
weekends. Should we play more, less, or about the same next year?

4. Does anybody have a SOLID lead on a home field? At the end of
last season, we had some conversation about possible fields. Has
anybody made any progress? Or should we plan to be "on the road"
again all next year?

5. Do you have other interested potential players? We need to add more
young guys to the mix. I think we'll have more conflict with the 55+
next year, so you youngsters shouldn't be relying on us old guys. I'd
like to have a viable team of young guys so that the old guys don't have
to play all the time.

Subject: [antiquesBaseball] Practice Sunday, 11/5 -- Plus uniforms & caps

Hi guys,

I just talked to the baseball guys at Cal Hi. They have reseeded and roped
off the main field. We can use the side field if we want to. I think it's
worth it to get one more BP, some throwing and running in.

Here's who I think might come or not:

Probable: Denny, Gus, Mike Rezzonico, Zach, Art

Maybe: Codany, Clyde, Ron Monks, Skip Willard, Walt, George Esposito, Nino,
Phil, Mike Tarens

No: Bob Willard, Elgin, George Karastamatis, Jeff, Mike Murphey, Randy,
Robert Custard, Steve Elias, Dutch, Lanny, Mike Flick, Rankin, Sal,
Terry

So, if you're on the maybe list above, please let me know if you want to
come. I'd like to have more than 5 of us to make it worth the trip. Or
if I'm wrong about you being on the No list, let me know.

The new caps and tops (for those who ordered them) are in. If you show
up on Sunday, you'll at least get a cap. If you don't you'll have to
wait to get them in FL.

Hi guys,

You might have already heard the news that Debra Jones, Clyde's wife,
passed away last week. See the Norcal website for more information
and for details about her services this week.
http://www.norcaloldtimers.org/

Here's what I'm planning for Debra's services. Please let me know if you'd
like to participate in any way.

The Norcal league is sending flowers; that will come out of the league
treasury.

The Antiques as a team will donate $100 from our treasury to
Ashlei Jones' college fund. I plan to donate personally to this also.
If you want to do this, let me know how much you'd like to contribute
and I'll write one check from the Antiques. I plan to list the
team and the names of individual contributors on a card. If you'd rather
be anonymous, let me know that. I'll need to know by Wednesday evening
if you want to contribute.

If you'd prefer to donate to a charity, see the Norcal website.
There are links on the site to suggested charities.

Hi guys,

We have at least the following options for practices on the next two
weekends.

1. Clyde has Laurel Creek Park in Fairfield available this Sunday, 10/22.

2. I have the JV field (open field) at Newark High in Newark available for
this Sunday, 10/22.

3. I have the JV field (open field) at Newark High in Newark available for
next Sunday, 10/29.

What we don't know is how many guys would show up to any of these. Everybody
on any of the three Florida teams are invited. Anybody who you want to
bring is also invited. The more the merrier. And nothing is "required".

Time: Last week we did 12-3 at Laurel Creek. Unless Clyde responds to
this with a different time, let's figure same this week.

For the Newark High options, let's figure 10:30-12:30. It's an open field and
we might have to beat somebody to the use of the field. We have the
approval of the baseball coach to use the site, but it would be good
not to have to kick somebody else off.

Please let me know if you plan to make one or more of these. I'd hate
to have somebody drive a long way to attend a 3-person practice.

My plans: I can't make either practice this Sunday, 10/22. I have to
babysit. So let me know if you want to run a Newark practice on Sunday.
Where "run" means bring a bunch of baseballs, and get the folks who
show up organized. I plan to run the 10/29 practice in Newark.

After I get some feedback from you guys, I'll let everybody know
how many people plan to make each practice.

Hi guys,

Schedules for all three divisions are available from the RH site
and from my site. Remember: these are preliminary and tentative.
Things could change.

My site:
48+: http://www.norcaloldtimers.org/antiques/pages/2006/RH48Info.php
55+ and 60+:
http://www.norcaloldtimers.org/antiques/pages/2006/RH55Info.php

In both cases, scroll to the bottom for the schedule.

RH site:
http://www.royhobbs.com/index.php?page=world-series
On this page are the links for the various divisions.

Looks like only one overlap of 55+ and 60+ games. Monday, both are
at 1:45. None of the 55 games overlap with the Detroit 60's.
(Robert Custard is doubling up, and wanted to know...)

Subject: [antiquesBaseball] Tops, caps, & jackets - PLEASE RESPOND

Hi guys,

This msg is going to LOTS of current and former Antiques players. I apologize
if you get more than one copy. I've combined a bunch of mailing lists.

I'm about to make an order for uniform tops, caps, and jackets.
Please respond asap so I can get the order in in time.

Uniform tops:
I'm ordering some new tops. Same style as current; sleeveless white with
black pins, Antiques logo, black numbers.

If you want to purchase a new top, please send me SIZE and NUMBER that
you want. Cost to you will be $45. It's OK to have duplicate numbers
with somebody else. So if you really want a new number, now's your chance.
If your current top is worn out, but you don't want to pay the $45, tell
me that too. I will be purchasing some "team owned" tops also. You can
use one, but you have to share it if I need it for a tournament.

Previous tournament players: if you have a top and you want to sell
it back to the team, I'll buy it back. Let me know...

Caps:
I'm ordering a bunch of caps. Most of you have already paid for your
cap via team fees over the past couple of year when we didn't purchase
new ones. Please check the attached file to make sure I have the right
size for you. If I don't have a size, or it looks wrong to you, please
let me know right away. If you're not on the list, and you want a cap,
please let me know right away. If I decide to charge you, it will be
about $15.

New caps will have Red bill and Royal blue body, with the Antiques
logo.

Jackets:
After winning the Las Vegas Open and Cal Cup tournaments and the TV
55+ league championship, I've been asked about jackets. I have a plan,
but there are some details to be worked out. The plan:
* Identify 2 or 3 jacket styles. Probably a plain shell jacket (no lining),
a simple lined jacket, and maybe an expensive "real" jacket.
* Body of the jackets will be black, possibly with some color in the trim
depending on style.
* Design what to put on the jackets. I'm thinking Antiques logo on the
left breast with "Champions 2004-2006 Las Vegas Open 55+, 2006 Cal Cup
55+, 2006 TriValley League 55+" embroidered.
* Take orders from anybody who participated in any of the tournaments
or league seasons.
* I don't know prices yet.

If you're interested in a jacket, please tell me:
* Which style: Cheap (shell only), Medium (lined); Expensive (real jacket).
* How much you want to spend on it. (Some of you will have this partly
covered by prior team fees.)
* Size
* Whether you definitely want one, or you want to see the options before
making a decision.

If you DO NOT want a jacket, please let me know that too.

I'm guessing that our options and prices will depend on how many we decide
to order.

Thanks in advance for your QUICK response.

Summary:
Want a Top? SIZE, NUMBER, BUY or BORROW
Want a Cap? SIZE
Want a Jacket? STYLE, SIZE, HOW MUCH, & DEFINITE

Denny: cap size is 7 5/8

Good to expensive coat, size 52 regular.

I may be able to play next year, but it will take that long to get into shape again (on a relative basis).

* I don't know prices yet.

If you're interested in a jacket, please tell me:
* Which style: Cheap (shell only), Medium (lined); Expensive (real jacket).
* How much you want to spend on it. (Some of you will have this partly
covered by prior team fees.)
* Size
* Whether you definitely want one, or you want to see the options before
making a decision.

If you DO NOT want a jacket, please let me know that too.

I'm guessing that our options and prices will depend on how many we decide
to order.

Thanks in advance for your QUICK response.

Summary:
Want a Top? SIZE, NUMBER, BUY or BORROW
Want a Cap? SIZE
Want a Jacket? STYLE, SIZE, HOW MUCH, & DEFINITE

Denny, I would love an Antique jacket. Medium to expensive sounds more like
the correct image for an act as classy as the Antiques but will go along
with whatever the majority decides. Do you want to put the 3 Woodland
championships in the mix as well??

Good luck in Florida, Sandy

I'll be in Minnesota celebrating Jake's mom's 95th birthday starting
tomorrow, Wed. 10/27 through Monday, 10/2. Back in the office next
Tuesday. I'll be available via phone, but not reliably. Calling the office
forwards to my cell. I might and might not have email access...

Clyde just sent me the following note. Please keep Clyde and Debra in
your prayers. This is all I know right now.
I'll relay more when I know more. I apologize if you get this more than once.

Just a note that, this morning on a cardiac procedure done by
physicians at North Bay Fairfield, my wife Debra is being
transported ASAP this afternoon to Standford Med Center Cardiac Unit,
for a more advance procedure. Status unknown.
