direction"
Patti and I will be in FL for the next couple of weeks.
Good luck on the diamond everyone!

Still in a cast, uncertain that I will be
able to run for perhaps as much as a year from now.
The cast should come off next week, to be
replaced by a walking boot, for at least two weeks, and then perhaps?

I'm about ready to move the Antiques website from the old, local
server
at my office to a new one with real hosting. This move will
break
almost all of your bookmarks or favorites.
The home page moves from
http://esi.xs.com/antiques/ to
http://www.norcaloldtimers.org/antiques/
I have a 'redirect' that will allow you to continue to use the
old
bookmark if you're lazy. Better would be to update your bookmark
to the
new URL.
I don't have redirects for other pages. For example, if you have
the
norcal schedule bookmarked, and you try the old link, you'll get
a
"file not found" error.
I'll put up a additional redirect files if you ask for them. So
if you
have a bookmark that you really want to keep, just let me
know.

I get my cast off the end of the month, but then have a walking boot for at least a couple of weeks. Have no idea as to when I will get the green light to start trying to run. I will fill out contract and send $$ as soon as I get some direction as to time of full recovery.
Hope practice goes well.

Hi guys,
Our last chance to practice is this weekend. But it looks like it will
rain again. Just in case we get decent weather, I have arranged to use
the practice field an Newark High in Newark. 10am to Noon.
Directions from the Antiques website:
Newark Memorial High http://www.nmhs.nusd.k12.ca.us/
Cedar, between Mowry and Stevenson, Newark, CA
* From 880, north or south, take either the Mowry or Stevenson exit. * Go west to Cedar. * From Stevenson turn right, from Mowry turn left to the high school.
The school website (link above) has a weather cam and a weather forecast
on the site.
Everybody (TV and NC) is invited. Potential recruits too.
Showing up is optional. Remote guys might want to work out where you live.
If you're wondering whether to show up or not, YOU CALL ME. I'm
not going to call anybody. I probably won't decide until Sunday morning,
and then I'll drive over or not, depending on the weather. I *might*
send email if it isn't pretty obvious what to do.
PLEASE use either my office phone 650-917-7892 or my cellphone
650-796-5923 for ALL baseball business. Don't call the home phone;
if you do you'll answer to Jake. :-(
I still need MONEY from many NC and TV players. I still need WAIVERS
from many TV players. A waiver form is attached. Please fill it out,
sign it, and bring it on Sunday or fax or mail it to me.
Denny Brown
325 Barclay Court

If you don't have the TV waiver in, the league won't let you play.
If you don't have your money in, Sal won't let you play.
Norcal guys: $150
TV guys: $200
Both teams: $300
And a big THANK YOU to those of you who have already submitted money
and waivers.

We now have a TV schedule. I need to get our paperwork and money
in
real soon.
So if you haven't done so:
* Print, fill out, sign, and mail the waiver form.
(attached)
* Include a check for $200.
* Read the TV rules. (attached)
* Check out the TV schedule; let me know any dates that you
know you
can't play. Some are Saturday, some are
Sunday.
Mail waivers and checks to me:
Denny Brown
325 Barclay Court
Palo Alto, CA 94306
I have waivers from: Randy, Sal, Mike Flick, Gus, Mike Rezzonico,
Sandy, Art.
I have money from: Gus, Sal, Mike Rezzonico.
If you sent any of this to Sal, that's fine. I'll get it from
him. I haven't
checked my US Mail in about a week, so if you sent it recently
you should
be on the list above.
The fees are still estimated. I don't have final budget yet.

Subject: [antiquesBaseball] Norcal Game (maybe doubleheader) this weekend
We're at UNKOWN in Tracy for a game (or maybe a doubleheader) against the
Tracy Oldtimers. (Tracy says they'll know field later in the week. I'll
let you know and send directions when I hear from them.)
Game time is 11am. Showup time is 10am.
Check the website for more info.
http://esi.xs.com/antiques/
Please respond with whether you are coming or not.
To see what I know about who is coming or not coming to a particular game
check out the "Headcount" link on the site.
Depending on how many people respond quickly, we'll either play one
or two. As before, this is a Norcal game, but all TV players are invited
to play.
Dutch, this is as close as it gets for your possible Livermore guys.
I hope you can get some of them to show up.
Garrett, try to get your guy to come. If Tracy is too far, then there's
not much hope.
Sal, plz call Phil, as usual.
Gus, can you call Danny?

Most of you know I'm not much for rules :-), but I'd like to change
a few things this year.
#1. You call me.
I hate (that is HATE) making outgoing phone calls. My work schedule keeps
me at the office late. By the time I'm home, fed, and settled, it's often
kind of late to start calling. So, if you have a question, or wonder if
the weather is OK wherever we're playing, or just want to hear my
voice, call me. If you think I'm ignoring you by not calling, you're wrong;
I don't call anybody if I can help it.
#2. Use my OFFICE phone number.
That is 650-917-7892. This rings twice at my desk and then forwards to my
cellphone. Cellphone has voicemail. Please don't use my home phone any more.
Between babysitting grandkids and Jake's mom in town and Jake's MS, using
the home phone can be disruptive. I turn the cellphone off or hide it in
the garage office if I'm not available, so you can call any time and leave
a message.
#3. Read your email.
I try to keep everybody informed by email. For me, it's the best way to
connect with the 30 or so people on the two teams. And if the email has
a question, please respond. If you hate email, then feel free to call me.
I don't mind incoming calls; it's the outgoing telephone that I HATE.
#4. Set up a buddy system.
If you don't know something, or don't read your email, or are away
or whatever, get somebody to be your proxy. Phil doesn't have email,
but he stays connected through Sal. Gus usually keeps Danny Moore informed.
Instead of everybody calling me, you can talk to each other and get the
information you need.
#5. It's your job to let me know if you cannot make a game. Please respond
early in the week to my email. I'll assume you ARE coming unless you tell
me you're NOT. It's OK to not come; it's not OK to not tell me you're not
coming.
#6. Use the website.
I have lots of info there. I plan to do a facelift sometime this year
to make things easier to find and use. If you need directions to a field,
almost all are available on the site. PLEASE make suggestions for
site improvements. If you'd like something to be on the site that isn't,
please ask.

From the Bay Area, go east on 580 over the Altamont Pass.
As you come down off the Altamont, you have two choices. They are nearly the same in distance and drive time. Northern route is maybe a little longer, but is mostly 2 lanes each way. Southern route is maybe a little shorter but has a long stretch on 132 that is 1 lane each way. I recommend the northern route.
* "Northern Route" o Continue straight. 580 turns into 205. Continue east on 205. o Just after 205 starts to swing north to go to Stockton, exit to 120 going east toward Manteca. o Take 120 east to 99. o Go south on 99 toward Modesto (and Fresno etc.) * "Southern Route" o Take the half-right to stay on 580 going toward Patterson (and LA). o Go south-east on 580 to 132. o Take the 132 exit from 580 going east toward Modesto. o When you get into Modesto, take 99 north, toward Stockton.
Whichever choice you took, you're now on 99, going north or south, depending.
* Exit at Standiford-Beckwith and go east on Standiford. * As you pass McHenry, Standiford turns into Sylvan. * Pass another major intersection at Coffee; continue on Sylvan. * Beyer High is on Sylvan, on your left.
* Ball field is behind the school.

Dear MSBL Player,
Opening day is fast approaching and with
that I am thrilled to kick off another season of partnership between
the MSBL and Ringor with a special discount on the Diamond Ace spike, one of our premium baseball shoes.
Order your Ringor cleats today and you will not only save 40+% but
have developed a meaningful relationship with them by opening day.
Why does it matter what pair of spikes I
invest in for the season? Why should I not recycle my shoes from last
year?
As the saying goes; don't go soft, play
hardball. And that is just what you do day in and day out. To sustain
this level of play you take care of yourself and your equipment should
do the same. Using equipment that is uncomfortable or worn out will
reduce this level of play and take innings off your baseball life. But
it doesn't have to be this way, because for 23 years Ringor has been
making baseball spikes that are comfortable and can change the way you
feel during the game.
Our Ringor Diamond Ace MSBL promotion provides the perfect
opportunity for you to enjoy a successful season of premium comfort
and performance at a price point that only a membership in the MSBL
can provide.
Some of the Diamond Ace features are a special Achilles Notch that
cradles and protects your Achilles tendon, a Shock Sock that resides
under the insole absorbing impact pressure through added cushioning. A
flex strap at the ball of the foot designed to mimic the natural
plantar flexion of the foot, creating a more natural and comfortable
bend of the foot when you accelerate and decelerate running down a fly
ball or sprinting to home.
Comfort is not the only feature of the Diamond Ace. Performance continues with the exterior of
the shoe and its lightweight and durable upper that provides the
comfort, agility and speed you demand in a premium baseball spike.
In addition, our Front Four technology
features a patented Four spike design which achieves two goals.
1.Power
Steering, which enables bursts of movement in all directions and ease
of rotation.
2.Maximum
Traction, allowing freedom for lateral movements.
I can honestly say that the Diamond Ace is the best baseball cleat money can buy at
this price. Your feet deserve to spend the next season in the comfort
and performance that only Ringor can provide.
I look forward to supporting your
successful season. At Ringor we provide the most premium baseball
spikes in the business. Worry about your swing or delivery to the
plate this season, we'll take care of your feet.

I just talked to Clyde. The field is iffy right now, and he doesn't

play these guys later in the year anyway.
Get ready for Modesto on Sunday, 3/26, at Modesto. It's a double header,

Hi guys,
Our first Norcal game is this Sunday. We play the Fairfield team
at the Stadium in Vacaville. It's the stadium just behind the old
Nut Tree, right next to the Loew's store.
Game time is Noon. Show up time is 11am.
Any of the TV guys who want to show up are invited to do so. It looks
like we'll have 9 or 10 of last year's Norcal guys, so there's plenty
of room for TV guys to show up.
PLEASE respond with whether you're coming or not so I can get an
idea about headcount.

I drove the
Paul Meyer and Silver Bowl parks today and can amplify the directions
a bit here.
Meanwhile,
one thing to remember about Las Vegas is that is it laid out
North-South/East-West, with the only 2 major roads on an angle:
Las Vegas Blvd (aka The Strip) and Boulder
Highway.
With that in
mind there are several key streets to remember Š
Going
North-South:
Paradise
Road - runs essentially parallel to LV Blvd on the east side Š
best entrance to Sahara Hotel is off Paradise (parking is free).
And it dumps right into the airport.
Eastern
Road
Decatur and
Rainbow Blvds Š key North-South on the west
side.
Going
East-West:
Sunset,
southern edge of airport
Russell,
runs from airport to Silver Bowl
Tropicana,
northern edge of airport
Flamingo,
central city
Sahara,
northern side of Sahara hotel.
Essentially, in most cases the E-Ws connect with the key N-S roads Š
and all the east-west roads connect with Boulder Highway on the far
east side of Las Vegas.
Now, with
that being said Š
Sahara to Silver
Bowl south
1.Exit Sahara (you can only turn right) on Paradise and
go south to Š
2.Flamingo Road, turn left, go east to
Š
3.Boulder Highway, turn right, go south to
Š
4.Russell Road, turn left, go east to
Š
5.Russell dead ends into the Silver Bowl, which is
UNLV's football stadium. Turn left on Broadbent in front of the
Stadium. Go North to the first right turn (northern edge of
Silver Bowl parking), landmark sign says "Star Nursery Fields".
Turn right and follow road to the end, turn right and follow
that road to the end; turn left and that road empties into the ball
fields.
6.We are playing on the southern field, with the grass
infield, follow the road around to the east side where there is
parking off the third-base dugout.
7.Note: Port-a-John is available; we will have
water containers and cups in the dugouts.
Sahara to Paul
Meyer Park
1.it Sahara (you can only turn right) on
Paradise and go south to Š
2.Flamingo Road, turn right, go west to
South Tenaya Way, about 5.5 miles. You will cross Decatur and
Rainbow Š Tenaya is the next stoplight after
Rainbow.
3.Turn left on Tenaya, go to the first stop
sign Š field will be on your left.
4.Turn left on New Forest road, go to
parking lot, which is beyond the left field line.
5.Note: Port-a-John is available; we will
have water containers and cups in the dugouts.
Travel between parks Š. Use Flamingo
Road-Boulder Highway connection.
Practice on Friday?
Finally, we have secured
a field for practice on Friday afternoon.
Sunset Park #7 Š it is
a dirt infield baseball field, a place where you and get loose, do
some infield practice and hit some.
We hold the permit from
2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday.
First come, first serve
Š please share as I doubt many teams will have a full contingent to
work out Š but if anyone wants to throw, this is the
place.
Directions: Field
is at the corner of Sunset and Eastern Roads.
From the Sahara, take
Paradise south to Flamingo; turn left and take Flamingo east to
Eastern Road. Turn right and take Eastern (south) to Sunset
Road. Go through the stoplight and take the first left into
Sunset Park. Field 7 is right at that entrance with a parking
lot.
OR, Take Las Vegas Blvd
south to Sunset, turn left; go East on Sunset to Eastern Road, turn
right (Sunset Park is on your left) and go to the first left-turn into
the park Š Field 7 is right at that entrance with a parking
lot.
Manager's Meeting
Manager's meeting
Friday at 7 p.m. in room 2703 at the Sahara. It's in the
Tangier Tower; the Sahara Sports Book is next to the elevators to the
tower. This shouldn't take long, but I will be able to
introduce my other field manager, answer questions, and we can have
some pop.
Again, thanks to Denny Brown for his directions and to
Clyde Jones for his assistance to helping to bring all this together
after we were left high and dry by our Las Vegas
connections.
