Hi guys,
I went to another TV managers' meeting on Tuesday night. Here's the latest.
There WILL be a 55+ division this year. Some decisions on the division have
been made; some are still to be determined.
1. Games will be played on Saturdays.
This will give individuals the option of playing in the 55+ on Saturday and
on some other team on Sunday.
2. No doubleheaders.
3. 10-15 game season. Late April to late August. Schedule TBD.
4. Players who played last year on a team that is going up to 55+, and
who are not yet old enough, can move up with their team. So far, there has
not been discussion of how many per team or how young a player can be.

But if you WANT to play 55, and you played last year, you
probably can.
5. We have 3 pretty solid teams committed so far: Antiques, Cardinals, and
Crushers/A's. A team from the Bay Area league (the Monarchs) are a strong
possibility for a 4th. There is interest from San Jose's MSBL league,
guys out of Sac, and maybe some interest from the Fresno Grizzlies. The
potential outside interest was one of the arguments for going to Saturday;
that way 55+ teams could be constructed without breaking up an
existing
team.
6. We don't have an accurate cost figure for TV yet. But it will probably end
up being about 2/3rds of last year's fees. For a first approximation, Antiques
dues will probably be something like: $200 for TV; $150 for Norcal; $300 for
both. We'll decide on this when we get a decision from TV.
Right now, the 45+ division has 6 teams: Cardinals (they younger part of their
guys, plus some additions), Pirates, Ports, Yankees-Tigers (they have combined
the remaining Tigers players with some of the Yankees from last year), Braves,
and Giants. Some of those teams are looking for players.
This means that each individual player has to make some decisions. Questions
include:
1. Do you want to play TV 55+ on Saturday?
2. How many games do you think you want to play? (We still have some
say in how many games to play. In principle, an unbalanced schedule where
some teams play more games than others is possible.)
3. Do you want to play on Sunday too? If yes, you could join the Norcal

Antiques or maybe play with one of the
TV 45+ teams. There are other
options too, of course.
Please let me know ASAP what you're
thinking!
I don't need final decisions right away, but I really do need to
get a
feeling for how this will work for each of you. I'd especially
like to
know from EVERYBODY what your ideal playing schedule would be.
Anything from
"every available weekend" to "I'll show up once or
twice if my schedule allows".
If you'd like me to help get you placed on one of the 45+ teams
in
TV, let me know right away. I will help everybody get situated.
Gus, can you call Danny? Sal, can you call Phil?

Rationale behind this:
In case any of you missed previous discussions, it was clear in January
that we would have trouble fielding a legitimate 45+ team.
After
communications with many of you, and some preliminary recruiting
efforts, I
decided to make a push for a 55+ division. The Saturday idea was
attractive
because it will allow the guys who want to play alot to play both
TV55 and
Norcal, or TV55 and TV45. Those who want to play less can play
one league,
or maybe part time in more than one.
