Valley Giants 6 - Norcal Antiques 5
by Denny Brown - Tuesday, March 20 2007, 09:01 PM
The day started bad when Art White dislocated his shoulder (again) during infield practice. It ended bad when we suffered a ninth inning, walk off loss. In between things were a little better.

We got out to 2-0 lead in the second on base hits by Jason Piccolotti, Eric Jones, and Mike Flick. We added a couple of unearned runs in the third.

The Giants got one back in the fourth and two more in the fifth. I'm not sure exactly how it all happened because I was at the hospital helping Artie get his arm yanked.

We got an insurance run in the seventh. Garrett Rezzonico led off with a hit and moved along on a couple of wild pitches. Rookie Mike Diaz broke in with an RBI single in his first at bat as an Antique.

Eric replaced Jason on the hill in the seventh and proceeded to walk two and hit a batter to load the bases with no outs. He got out with minimum damage by getting a 4-6-3 double play and a K. We led 5-4 after 7.

We threatened in the top of the eighth, loading the bases with 2 out, but couldn't get the big hit to extend our lead.

The Giants tied the game in the bottom. Fred Leviano led off with a double, moved to third on an infield out, and scored on a soft ground ball when we couldn't get him at the plate. 5-5 after 8.

We loaded the bases again in the ninth, this time with no outs. We won't mention any names, but three infield groundouts, two of them forced at home let Giants closer Leviano off the hook.

Calvin Johnson led off the bottom of the ninth with a base hit. He moved to second on an infield grounder. That brought up Al Fojo in a position to win the game with a base hit. He delivered the walk-off single to give the Giants their only lead of the game. The only one that counts...
