Cal Cup update - PLEASE READ   Message List

Hi guys,

I have a problem with our Cal Cup roster. As of late last week, I had
something like 13 guys who had said "yes". Then the 45+ division of the
tournament was cancelled and I got a few inquiries about whether I had
openings at 55+. Since I did have openings at the time, I said yes.

Then the couple of guys turned in to a couple more; then a few who
I thought were "no" turned into "yes". Right now I have 21 guys who
have said they want to play. And a few of you who I haven't heard from.

I see the following options:
1. We can play the tournament with 21 guys. If we do this, it
will be a little cheaper per player. I did the arithmetic for
14 guys to get $70. Extra players over 14 are $50. So the new
price will be between $50 and $70.
2. Some of you might decide that 21 is too many, and you won't get
enough playing time, and you'd rather skip it.
3. Some of you might decide to explore playing with one of the other
teams in the tournament. If you're interested, let me know and
I'll connect you.

The 21 guys who have said "yes" are:

Rich Battiato, Randy Baumgardner, Dave Beren, Denny Brown, Steve
Brye, Mike Ching, Randy Cobb, George Esposito, Sal Esposito, Terry
Fail, Jim Gardner, Rich Hinkle, Dan Gehm, Jim Kenney, Gus Manning,
Brian Mau, Ron Monks, Phil Montes, Dan Moore, Randy Olson, Mike Petta

I'm willing to take all 21, assuming you all agree. But then I don't
expect to hear "I didn't get enough playing time." Those of you who have
played for me before know that I try to balance playing time with winning
tournaments. But 21 is a lot for 4 games (see below).

I don't have email addresses for some of the 21, so I need help:
* Steve Brye: Please pass along to Dave Beren.
* Sal: Phil.
* Gus: Danny.

The schedule is not out yet, but I had an unofficial conversation
that indicated we'd play 2 games Saturday and one Sunday morning
for the round-robin. They are thinking that the playoffs will be
#1 v. #2 for championship. #3 v. #4 for a third-place game. Both
of those Sunday afternoon/evening. That would mean exactly 4 games;
two Saturday and two Sunday. No more, no less. I only say this in
case it helps with your decision.

Please let me know what you want to do RIGHT AWAY. By phone is fine if you
want to discuss. Call my office 650-917-7892. That forwards to my
cellphone if I'm not at my desk.
