One night after falling to the league-leading Hamilton Bulldogs, the Rochester
Americans traveled down I-90 to take on the Syracuse Crunch. Behind a 41-save
effort made by Ryan Miller and two goals by Amerks rookie Jason Pominville,
Rochester took the first game of the home-and-home series by a score of 3-2.
Pominville opened scoring 56 seconds into the game with his fifth goal of the
season. Doug Janik and Doug Houda earned assists on the score. Syracuse's Matt
Dzieduzzycki tied the game at 12:42 of the period with his sixth goal of the
season, assisted by Tim Jackman. Rochester's Jason Botterill, arguably one of
the best acquisitions by the club in the off-season, scored his 21st goal of the
season at 17:47 of the first while Rochester was on the power-play. Jarolsav
Kristek and Chris Taylor made the goal possible.
Syracuse tied the game again at 5:27 of the second period when Blake
Bellefeuille scored his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Matt Davidson.
The game remained tied until the 2:18 mark of the final period, when Pominville
scored the game winnner with help from Rory Fitzpatrick, who was reassigned to
Rochester earlier in the day.
The Rochester club can finally get some rest, as they've been busy the past few
days. They can't sleep too long, however, as they host the Syracuse Crunch on
Monday night at the Blue Cross Arena. The puck drops at 7:05pm.

The Hamilton Bulldogs visited the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial
last night and rallied from a two-goal deficit to skate away with a 6-4 victory.
A four-goal final period and scores by three players who already own
double-digit goal tallies this season contributed to the Bulldogs' win.
Rochester opened scoring in the game when Jaroslav Kristek scored his 11th goal
of the season at 11:27 of the opening period. Jason Botterill and Chris Taylor
earned assists on the score. Hamilton's Chad Hinz tied the game at one with his
fourth of the season under six minutes later, assisted by Jani Rita and
goaltender Ty Conklin. Rochester's Francois Methot scored his eighth of the
season at 8:08 of the second period to regain the lead for the Amerks. Methot,
who seems to score a vast majority of his goals while serving on special teams,
did it again as Chris Taylor assisted during the man-advantage opportunity.
Milan Bartovic then scored his seventh goal of the season under a minute later,
with assists to Methot and Norm Milley. Hamilton's Jason Ward answered with his
17th goal of the season while Hamilton was a man short at 16:50 of the period.
Benoit Gratton and Francis Bouillon assisted on the score. Rochester's Jason
Pominville erased that gain at 18:58 of the period with his fourth of the
season, coming on a power-play opportunity. Norm Milley and Chris Taylor helped
out on the score.
Hamilton came out seeking blood in the final period and scored four unanswered
goals to claim the victory. Jani Rita scored his 14th on the year at 7:18,
assisted by Benoit Gratton. Jason Ward scored his second of the night at 15:21
of the period to tie the game once again, helped out by Gratton and Fernando
Pisani. Pisani then put the Bulldogs ahead with the eventual game-winner at
18:58 of the period with help from Francis Bouillon. Benoit Gratton sealed the
victory with an empty-net goal with less then twenty seconds left in the game.
Rochester put 21 shots on goal in the game and converted two of five power-play
opportunities. Ryan Miller stopped 34 of 39 shots on goal to put his record at
11-10-3 for the season. The Americans are in Syracuse tonight to face the
Crunch, then return to the Blue Cross Arena on Monday night to complete the home
and home series vs. Syracuse.

The Rochester Americans continued their amazing turnaround after a horrid start
to the 2002-03 season by defeating the Cleveland Barons this past Thursday night
at the Gund Arena. Rochester came into the game with a two-game winning streak
and facing the first of three games in three nights.
Cleveland drew first blood at 9:06 of the opening period when Eric Laplante

assisted by Doug Janik and Chris Taylor. The Barons' Travis Hansen regained the

Miroslav Zalesak, but Rochester's Radoslav Hecl, newly reassigned to the Amerks,
tied the game again with four seconds left in the period with his fifth goal of
the season for the Amerks.. Norm Milley, also reassigned to the Amerks with
Hecl, earned an assist on the goal.
Rochester's Milan Bartovic took the lead from Cleveland with the eventual
game-winner at 2:38 of the second period while the Americans were on the
power-play. Radoslav Hecl earned an assist on the scorem Bartovic's fifth of
the season. Bartovic then scored his second of the night at 14:01 of the second
period while teams were at full-strength; this time Francois Methot earned an
assist. Jaroslav Kristek sealed the win with his 10th goal of the season, an
empty-net score at 19:46 of the final period, with help from Ryan Jorde.

game to improve his record to 2-3-3 on the season. Rochester put 28 shots on
goal while the special teams were 1-5 with the man-advantage. Rochester boarded

Amerks forward Jason Botterill was named the American Hockey League Player of
the Week after notching six points for the week ending December 22nd. Botterill
scored five goals and one assist in two games against Cincinnati and one at
Hershey. In addition,he scored game-winning goals in consecutive games on the
21st and 22nd and he now has a five-game point streak (6+4) from the 13th to the
22nd of December.
Botterill leads the league and his club with 20 goals and is tied for eighth in
the league with 31 points (20+11). He is one goal away from tying his career
high of 21, set during the 2001-02 season with Saint John. The Edmonton,
Alberta, native also leads the team with seven power-play goals in 32 games. He
has also played in one game with the Buffalo Sabres this season.
In other news, the Amerks have had several player moves over the past couple of
days. Denis Hamel was recalled to the Buffalo Sabres while Norm Milley and
Radoslav Hecl were returned to the Amerks and Peter Ratchuk was a scratch for
tonight's game in Cleveland with an undisclosed illness. In addition, Jiri
Novotny is playing the World Juniors, therefore leaving the club with one less
player than currently suit up during the game.
Results from the Cleveland game will be sent as soon as they are available.

After defeating the Hershey Bears at the GIANT Center the previous evening with
Ryan Miller's second career shutout, the Amerks returned home for their last
game before Christmas, taking on the Mighty Ducks for the second time in three
games. It was a revenge of sorts, as the Cincinnati squad defeated Rochester
Friday evening to interrupt their nine-game winless streak.
Rochester's five goal first period lit up the visiting Ducks, with four
different players scoring during the period. Denis Hamel continued his strong
offensive showing in the AHL by opening the scoring with his 16th goal of the
season, shorthanded, at 5:17 of the first period. Paul Guastad and Doug Janik
assisted on the score. Jason Pominville scored his 3rd goal with the club at
13:39, assisted by Guastad and Hamel to put the score at 2-0. Francois Methot
then went on to score two goals within four minutes to ratchet up the score.
His first came at 14:48 with assists to Jason Botterill and Jaroslav Kristek and
his second was at 17:58 unassisted. Botterill then scored a goal of his own at
19:20 for what would eventually be the game winner. Doug(s) Janik and Houda
assisted on the score.
Botterill wasn't finished, however, as he came out and buried another goal only
20 seconds into the second period. Chris Taylor and Jarolsav Kristek assisted
on the score. Milan Bartovic's fourth goal of the season ended the Amerks'
offensive romp; he was unassisted. Cincinnati staged a tough rally in the final
period of play, but in the end the Amerks prevailed. Ben Guite, Francis
Belanger, Alexei Smirnov and Mark Popovic all scored within the first 12 minutes
of the period, but the Ducks were unable to overcome the Amerks massive
first-period barrage. Ryan Miller stopped 31 of 35 shots on goal to earn his
8th victory in his last nine starts.

Rochester's Ryan Miller notched the second professional shutout of his young
career last night, stopping all 35 shots in a game at the GIANT Center in
Hershey, PA. It was the second meeting this season between the AHL's two oldes
teams, the Americans and the Hershey Bears. The first meeting in October saw
the Bears skate away with a 4-1 victory at the opening night of their new arena.
Jason Botterill scored his 18th goal of the season unassisted at 5:17 of the
first period to give his club an early lead. Denis Hamel then notched a short
handed goal at 16:41 of the second for his 15th score of the year to put
Rochester up 2-0. Paul Guastad assisted on the score. Both teams played
nicely, but neither could convert a total of 7 power-play opportunities.
Rochester is back home tonight at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War
Memorial to face the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks for the second time in three days.
It is the last game the club will play before Christmas; faceoff is 6:05pm.

It was bound to happen. The Rochester Americans, who have pulled off an amazing
turnaround since the first month of the 2002-03 season, suffered their first
defeat since November 27th at the hands of the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks this past
Friday evening. Rochester scored first with a power-play goal at 4:50 of the
opening period, but starting netminder Tom Askey went on to allow five goals on
13 shots before being pulled early in the second period.
Peter Ratchuk scored with the man-advantage to give the Amerks the lead in the
opening minutes of the first period, his second score of the season. Jaroslav
Kristek and Francois Methot earned assists on the play. Cincinnati's Cory
Pecker tied the game at 8:25 of the period with help from Chris O'Sullivan and
Jarret Smith. Alexei Smirnov gave the Mighty Ducks the lead just over four
minutes later with his fifth goal of the season, assisted by Ben Guite and Brian
Gornick. Travis Brigley then gave Cincinnati a two-goal lead at 9:15 of the
second period while shorthanded. Rob Valicevic assisted on the goal.
Rochester's Jason Botterill, who has provided offensive spark most of the
season, brought the game back within one goal at 10:29 of the second period
while on the power-play. Botterill's 16th goal of the season was assisted by
Jaroslav Kristek and Chris Taylor. However, Cory Pecker scored again to regain
the two-goal lead at 12:29 while the Ducks were on the power-play. Pecker was
assisted by Josh Dewolf and Tony Martensson. Ben Guite then put the Ducks up by
three at 13:05 with his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Nick Smith.
Jason Botterill buried the biscuit again at 17:02 in an attempt to start a
Rochester rally. However, the rally fell short as Doug Janik's second goal of
the season came at 18:57 of the final period, and no other scores were made as
Rochester fell 5-4 to the Mighty Ducks.
Rochester boarded the bus for Pennsylvania following the game as they will take
on the Hershey Bears tonight then return to Rochester on Sunday evening to take
on the Ducks once again. Stay tuned to amerks@yahoogroups.com for all the
latest!

Norm is here is Buffalo but didn't get much of a chance. Last night he was not playing either.
He did go to Children's Hospital with other Sabres to visit the kids for their Christmas party, there was a picture of them in the Buffalo News yesterday.
Here are the results for the past threee games; my apologies but my Internet
service has been down as a result of a driver mixing it up with a telephone
pole.
Rochester currently sits in second place in the Central Division with a 10-10-7
(2) record and is riding an 8-game unbeaten streak into three back-to-back games
this weekend, beginning with Cincinnati Mighty Ducks at home on Friday, at
Hershey on Saturday and back at home against Cincinnati on Sunday.
This past Saturday, Rochester traveled to Binghamton to take on the re-born AHL
franchise. It was the club's first trip to their old rival's home ice since
1997, when the team was the Rangers and the affiliates of the New York version
of the same name. Rochester fell behind early and ended up playing a majority
of the game without Head Coach Randy Cunneyworth or Captain Doug Houda.
Cunneyworth was given a delay of game penalty and subsequent game misconduct for
throwing a puck on the ice 13 seconds into the period. The reason behind the
action was apparently related to Denis Hamel's pre-period warm up lap before he
was to serve out the remainder of a five minute major penalty for fighting,
assessed in the closing minutes of the first period. Houda received a
unsportsmanlike conduct, misconduct and game misconduct seven minutes in, one of
several misconduct penalties assessed to the Amerks that night.
Binghamton skated to the lead just over five minutes into the game when Brian
Mcgratten scored on a power-play opportunity, assisted by David Hymovitz and
Brian Pothier. Joe Murphy made the score 2-0 at 18:34 of the period with help
from Chris Kelly, scoring on a short-handed opportunity. Rochester's Chris
Taylor broke in the Amerks' offensive attack 51 seconds into the second period
with his fourth goal of the season. Jaroslav Kristek and Peter Ratchuk assisted
on the score. Brian Pothier returned a 2-goal lead to the baby Sens at the 2:00
mark while on the power-play, assisted by Jason Spezza and Antoine Vermette.
Brad Smyth made the score 4-1 less than five minutes later, assisted by Chris
Kelly and Joe Murphy. Rochester's Jiri Novotny scored his second goal of the
season at 13:43 to start the Amerks' rally, with help coming from Francois
Methot and Jason Botterill.
Denis Hamel scored his 13th goal of the season at 5:21 of the final period to
nudge the score closer, assisted by Jason Pominville, then scored again on the
power-play at 8:41 with help from Peter Ratchuk and Francois Methot.
Binghamton's Antoine Vermette gave the Sens the lead once again at 14:04 of the
period, but Rochester's Jaroslav Kristek preserved a tie with his score at 18:03
of the period. Assisting on Kristek's 8th goal, coming on the power-play, were
Jason Botterill and Radoslav Hecl. Ryan Miller stopped 41 of 46 shots on goal
to improve his record to 9-9-3 on the season. Rochester's power play converted
2 of 12 opportunities and the offense put 34 shots on goal.
On Friday the 13th, Rochester hosted I-90 rival Syracuse in the first of 12
meetings this season. Ryan Miller put on a stellar performance stopping all 38
Crunch shots on goal to earn his first professional shutout in a 5-0 decision.
Francois Methot began the feast at 11:47 of the opening period with his fifth
goal of the season, assisted by Jason Pominville. Denis Hamel's 11th goal of
the year cam at 16:34 of the period for a 2-0 lead, assisted by Chris Taylor and
Jaroslav Kristek.
Jiri Novotny earned his first goal of the season at 4:08 of the second period,
assisted by Francois Methot and Jason Botterill. Botterill then notched a goal
of his own, his 15th of the season, at 18:27, assisted by Methot and Jaroslav
Kristek. Denis Hamel's 12th goal of the year ended the romp, coming shorthanded
at the 12:00 mark and assisted by Radoslav Hecl. Rochester cam up empty in five
attempts on power-play opportunities.
On the 12th of December, Rochester traveled to Cleveland to take on the Barons
and skated away with a 2-1 victory. Rochester's Chris Taylor opened scoring at
18:49 of the secon period while the Amerks were skating with a man advantage.
His third goal of the year was assisted by Francois Methot and Peter Ratchuk.
Cleveland's Jeff Jillson scored at 12:56 of the final period to force overtime,
something Rochester is intimately familiar with this season. However, this game
ended with a positive note for the Americans when Radoslav Hecl connected on a
pass from Kevin Bolibruck with a minute to play in the extra period. Jason
Pominville also earned an assist. Ryan Miller stopped 24 shots on goal to
improve to 8-9-2 on the season. Rochester put 30 shots on goal and was 1-6 on
the power-play.

Hi,
One other option is the Crowne Plaza, which is about
1.5 blocks from the arena.

Sorry about the delay, I was out of town and my laptop crashed! Anyway, here's
the report on the Veterans' Day game at the Blue Cross Arena.
The Norfolk Admirals, coming into the game with the second-best record in the
league, took advantage of several power-play opportunities to skate away with a
4-2 victory over the Rochester Americans. Marty Wilford scored to put the
Admirals up early while on a power-play; Jef Helperl and Matt Henderson assisted
on the score at 7:12 of the opening period. Rochester's Milan Bartovic's second
score of the season tied the game 35 seconds into the 2nd period. Paul Gaustad
and Rory Fitzpatrick assisted on the score. Denis Hamel gave Rochester it's
only lead of the game at 10:23 of the period with his 7th goal of the season,
assisted by Doug Janik and Karel Mosovsky.
Casey Hankinson tied the game again for the Admirals at 14:03 with his eighth
goal of the season. Peter White and Mike Peluso assisted on the goal. Another
power-play opportunity sent the lead back to Norfolk when Igor Radulov scored at
15:27. Matt Henderson and Burke Henry earned assists on the goal. Casey
Hankinson ensured the Admiral victory with an empty-net goal with 20 seconds
remaining in the game, assisted by Quintin Laing and Marty Wilford.
Rochester's power-play was shut down for the first time in the past few games as
special teams went 0-10. The offense put 28 shots on goal while backup
netminder Tom Askey stopped 26 of 29 shots on goal (empty net not included in
shots). Askey's record drops to 0-2-2 on the season. Rochester will be on the
road Friday as the club travels to Cleveland, OH to face the Barons.
Rochester's first win of the season came against the same club, and Rochester
hopes to return with another victory before finishing out the weekend with a
two-game homestand.

I think it's unfair based on the poor start of the team this season to say that the Amerks woes are based soely on the parent Buffalo Sabres. I have to admit, other than Ryan Miller there aren't many new prospects the team sent us this year that have been that impressive or show much promise. That can't be helped. Regardless of who your parent team is, you're bound to have some troublesome seasons. Give them time to turn things around.
