Here's a few tidbits of information regarding the Rochester Americans:
Following Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre's recall to the parent Sabres, the Amerks
recalled Shane Kenny from the B.C. Icemen of the United Hockey League. Grand-
Pierre joined the Amerks in the middle of their recently-completed road trip
and was recalled immediately following Tuesday's game in Philadlephia. Shane
Kenny was sent to the Icemen on Tuesday, but was immediately recalled
following the Grand-Pierre move. Now with the trade of Matthew Barnaby to the
Pittsburgh Penguins, it is seeming more and more likely that the Amerks being
recalled are not for show for a possible trade; in fact they are beginning to
get accustomed to a possible role as a regular on the Sabres. This could be
the reason for the Grand-Pierre recall on Tuesday...
Right-winger Steffon Walby is questionable for tonight's game on home ice
against the Albany River Rats. Walby suffered a concussion during the road
trip and has missed two games since then. He has said himself that he is not
feeling 100% right now, especially during yesterday's practice. Take it from
someone who has suffered THREE concussions (me), it takes a while to
recover...not necessarily a week; sometimes it takes longer to regain all of
your capabilities...
Tom Draper, relegated to a back-up role through much of the season until
Martin Biron's recall on February 18, is tied for third in the American Hockey
League in terms of goals-against average. Draper, Kentucky Thoroughblade John
Nabokov and former Providence goalie (now with St. Louis of the NHL) Jim
Carey, all have a GAA of 2.33...
Mike Harder, a centerman, is riding an eight-game point streak into tonight's
face-off against the Empire Division rival River Rats. Right wingers Dean
Sylvester and Matt Davidson also are on point streaks, earning a point in the
last seven games...
Domenic Pittis, who seems to never be absent from the Amerks score sheet, is
third in the American Hockey League with 72 points (26 goals, 46 assists).
