Rochester, NY: DARREN RUMBLE TO JOIN ROCHESTER'S DEFENSE
The Rochester Americans hockey club announced that it had acquired Darren
Rumble, a defenseman, on loan from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the
International Hockey League. Rumble is a veteran of ten hockey seasons and is
expected to meet the Americans today, Saturday, in Hershey, PA when the Amerks
play the Bears. Rumble played with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL in
1996-97, when he won the Eddie Shore award when he acquired 62 points (18 +
44). He also earned a First-Team all-star nomination that season and he was a
Second-Team all-star as a member of the now-defunct Prince Edward Island
Senators in 1994-95. Rumble racked up 28 points (6 + 22) in 53 games with the
Griffins this season, as well as 44 minutes. He will be a welcom addition to
the Amerks already-dominating defense which includes Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre
(recently returned from Buffalo), Cory Sarich (who has played in Buffalo as
well), Dean Melanson, Mike Hurlbut, Alexei Tezikov, Steffon Walby, Jason
Holland, Jason Mansoff and Shane Kenny. Currently Mansoff and Kenny are on
the injury list and Walby and Holland are playing sporadically this season.
Go Amerks!
