One night after falling to the league-leading Hamilton Bulldogs, the Rochester Americans traveled down I-90 to take on the Syracuse Crunch.  Behind a 41-save effort made by Ryan Miller and two goals by Amerks rookie Jason Pominville, Rochester took the first game of the home-and-home series by a score of 3-2.

Pominville opened scoring 56 seconds into the game with his fifth goal of the season.  Doug Janik and Doug Houda earned assists on the score.  Syracuse's Matt Dzieduzzycki tied the game at 12:42 of the period with his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Tim Jackman.  Rochester's Jason Botterill, arguably one of the best acquisitions by the club in the off-season, scored his 21st goal of the season at 17:47 of the first while Rochester was on the power-play.  Jarolsav Kristek and Chris Taylor made the goal possible.

Syracuse tied the game again at 5:27 of the second period when Blake Bellefeuille scored his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Matt Davidson.  The game remained tied until the 2:18 mark of the final period, when Pominville scored the game winnner with help from Rory Fitzpatrick, who was reassigned to Rochester earlier in the day.

The Rochester club can finally get some rest, as they've been busy the past few days.  They can't sleep too long, however, as they host the Syracuse Crunch on Monday night at the Blue Cross Arena.  The puck drops at 7:05pm.
