The Rochester Americans continued their winless streak with a renewed rivalry
against the Binghamton Senators. Sporting "new" red jerseys, such as worn in
the 1970s and early '80s, the Amerks fought back from an early 2-0 hole to tie
the game in the second period, then suffered another painful defeat as the
power-play continued its blackout.
Brad Smyth got things started for Binghamton, scoring first at 8:37 of the
opening period. Jason Spezza notched the second Senator's score with 6:57
remaining. Rochester's Milan Bartovic and Jason Botterill scored for Rochester
in the second and third periods to tie the game, but Brian Pothier notched a
power-play goal in the third to give the Senators the lead once again. Smyth
sealed the win with an empty-net power-play goal with 12 seconds remaining in
the game. Ryan Miller stopped 21 of 24 shots on goal in the loss while Simon
Lajeunesse stopped 27 of 29 Rochester shots.
Rochester will try once again to score it's first win of the season tomorrow
night in Pennsylvania, where the Hershey Bears will open at home and dedicate
their new GIANT Center. It will be a contest between the two oldest and most
storied franchises in the American Hockey League. Look for more news from
