The Buffalo Sabres recalled defenseman Dimitri Kalinin after one game in the AHL. Kalinin and Ales Kotalik were assigned to Rochester before Monday's home game against Hamilton, a move not fully explained by either orgainzation. Rumors floated that the Sabres wanted both players to see more action and "regain" their NHL capabilities. Kotalik remains with Rochester as of this writing.
In other news, Ryan Miller, the young goaltender seen as the next superstar for Rochester and the Sabres, is currently first in the AHL in minutes played (189), fifth in saves (60) and sixth in goals-against-average, with a 1.59 average. Miller has started all three Amerks games this season.
Denis Hamel, the "transplanted NHLer," leads the AHL in shots on goal with 21 through three games played.
Rory Fitpatrick, assistant captain and Rochester native, is second in the NHL in shots on goal by a defenseman with 11.
Seaon McMorrow and Paul Gaustad are in the top five AHL rookies in terms of penalty minutes; McMorrow with 17 and Gaustad with 10.
