The Rochester Americans will unveil a "new" sweater that they will wear Friday, October 17th when the Binghamton Senators come to the Blue Cross Arena. The red sweaters with the traditional crest, will be reminiscent of the days of old, when Binghamton and Rochester were fierce rivals. Rochester last wore the red jerseys during the 1980-81 season.
For those who may not be aware, the Binghamton AHL club has been dormant since 1996-97, when they were the affiliate of the New York Rangers (alas, the Binghamton club had the same name). Binghamton switched their affiliation to Hartford, CT (Wolf*Pack) and the Senators at the time owned the Prince Edward Island Senators. PEI folded soon after, and the Binghamton-Rochester rivalry came to an end...until this year. Ottawa re-activated their AHL franchise in Binghamton and the "B-Sens" were born. Look for a renewal of the competition to begin Friday night, as the puck drops @ 7:35pm.
