The Rochester Americans won their first game of the 2001-2002 season against one
of their perennial opponents, the Hershey Bears, by a score of 3-2 at the Blue
Cross Arena. Darren VanOene's second goal of the season came at 5:11 of the
opening period, assisted by Chris Taylor. Larry Courville, currently on a
tryout contract with the Bears, tied the game at 1 at 15:36. Brad Norton and
Matt Herr collected the assists.

Darren VanOene scored his second goal of the game at 1:05 of the 2nd period to
give Rochester the lead once again. Francois Methot and Norm Milley were the
helpers on the goal. Milan Bartovic scored the eventual game winner at 14:33,
his first of the season. Mike Hurlbut and Jeremy Adduono assisted Bartovic.
Hershey tried to come back with the help of Matt Scorsune, assisted by Brent
Thompson and Radim Vrbata.

Both Rochester and Hershey put 30 shots on goal in the game; Phil Suave stopped
27 of 30 shots for Hershey to drop his record to 1-2. Mika Noronen stopped 28
of 30 shots for his first victory of the season, improving to 1-2-1. The Amerks
are at Syracuse tonight, playing their I-90 rivals, the Crunch.
