The Rochester Americans traveled to Elmira, NY to square off against the
Louisville Panthers this past Wednesday evening. Scheduling conflicts at
Freedom Hall forced the Panthers ownership group to schedule the game in
Elmira, where they also own the Coach USA Center. 1,011 predominately
Rochester fans viewed the contest, in which newly obtained Sasha Lakovic was
the main attraction.
Lakovic, who was signed to a tryout contract from the Long Beach Ice Dogs of
the West Coast Hockey League, scored his first Amerk goal only 15 seconds
into the contest, then KO'd Panthers wing Paul Harvey before the end of the
first twenty minutes. Harvey did not return to the game.
Joe Murphy gave Rochester a 2-0 lead at 4:59 of the first period, scoring his
fifth of the season with assists from Jason Cipolla and Chris Taylor.
Lakovic then set up Francois Methot's game-winning goal at 13:10 of the
second period. Mika Noronen, who has been hot-and-cold so far this season,
recorded 23 saves on 25 Louisville scoring opportunities.
The Amerks have their next contest on the road in Norfolk, Virginia, where
they will take on the expansion Admirals on December 7th. Some of you may
remember that the Admirals were formerly the Hampton Roads Admirals in the
East Coast Hockey League, and are the affiliates of the NHL's Chicago
Blackhawks.
Until next time,
GO AMERKS!
