Hey there, fans, sorry for the delay in the news, but here are some developments
on the Rochester Americans front.
Scott Nichol, a long-time fan favorite in Rochester, has signed a one-year
contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning of the NHL. Citing the fact that he still
wants a chance to play at the highest level in professional hockey, Nichol
stated that he has loved his time in Rochester, but felt that he needed to
pursue the opportunity in the NHL. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed
and if Nichol is cut by the Lightning, he will suit up for the Detroit Vipers of
the International Hockey League.
On a continuing "coach update," the Sabres and Amerks were close to closing a
one-year extension and the Democrat and Chronicle has mentioned that once the
terms are settled, Randy Cunneyworth will be announced as the newest coach of
the Americans. The extension of the two teams' working agreement may be the
final year due to the arrangements of Steve Donner's group to complete the
financial takeover of the team. Options available to the Americans if the ties
are severed in the future include playing as an independent franchise in the AHL
and acquiring a new parent club in the NHL. One of the teams mentioned as
possibly filling that role is the Detroit Red Wings franchise. More to follow
as it becomes available!
Go Amerks!
