Amerks Post-Game Report: Rochester 4, Cincinnati Mighty Ducks 1
The Rochester Americans won their ninth game of the season to remain
unbeated or tied in the 1999-2000 season last night in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Maxim Afinogenov scored his third goal of the season with assistance from
Jason Cipolla and goaltender Mika Noronen. The opening goal came at :28 of
the first period. Darren VanOene added to the Amerks' lead with his goal at
3:32 of the opening period. VanOene's third of the season was assisted by
Francois Methot.
A little over two minutes later, Craig Fisher, the Amerks' scoring
leader, padded his totals with his eighth goal of the season, assisted by
Chris Taylor and Denis Hamel. Fisher's ninth of the year came at 11:48 of
the opening period. Assisting on the power-play score were Denis Hamel and
Mike Hurlbut. Cincinnati's Torrey Diroberto scored at 8:42 of the final
period to end Mika Noronen's bid for his second AHL shutout.
Noronen, who has become the Amerks' starting netminder while Biron shows
his stuff in Buffalo, stopped 29 of 30 shots on goal while the Americans put
together 24 (12-8-4) shots on goal. Rochester was also 1-6 on the power-play
and collected eight penalties for 16 minutes. Rochester is in Kentucky today
for a 4:05 pm game with the Thoroughblades.
