Amerks Post-Game Summary: Rochester 6, Springfield Falcons 2
The Rochester Americans began the defense of their Western Coference and
Empire Division titles yesterday evening and got off to a great start. Maxim
Afinogenov scored the first Rochester goal in the 1999-2000 season only 2:19
into the opening period. Assisting on the goal were Marc Dupis and Randy
Cunneyworth. Mike Hurlbut earned his first of the season near the end of the
first period on the power-play. Assisting on the goal, scored at 19:24, were
Jason Cippola and Jeremy Adduono.
Rochester continued domination of the game as they came out to score
three goals in the second period while Springfield remained without a goal.
At 2:29, Denis Hamel connected on a shot to give the Amerks a 3-0 lead and
was assisted by Paul Traynor. Four minutes later (6:42), Hamel connected
again, this time with help from Doug Houda and Dimitri Kalinin. At 17:05 of
the middle period, Darren VanOene notched his first of the season with help
from Maxim Afinogenov and Jeremy Adduono.
Springfield ended Martin Biron's bid for an opening-game shutout when
Sean McCann scored at 2:05 of the final period on the power-play. Eric Healy
bolstered the Springfield offense with a score at 6:45, but the efforts of
the Falcons to rebound were shattered when Jeremy Adduono racked up his first
goal of the game for Rochester. Afinogenov and Cunneyworth assisted on the
goal.
Earning time in the box for Rochester during the first period was Paul
Traynor, the recipient of an interference minor penalty. In the second
period, Francois Methot (high sticking), Craig Fisher (interference) and
Doug Houda (double; cross-checking) earned minor penalties. Eric Boulton was
assessed a major penalty fighting. Marty Biron was assessed a delay of game
minor in the third period (served by Dane Jackson) and Traynor took a holding
penalty for two minutes.
In the game, Biron stopped 29 of 31 shots on goal while Rochester put 36
shots on goal (12-12-12). The Amerks were also 1 for 6 on the power-play.
The Amerks play at Syracuse tonight and then host the Philadelphia Phantoms
