BONN, Germany: Japan defender Makoto Tanaka has been ruled
out of the
World Cup after suffering a thigh injury and FC Tokyo's
Teruyuki Moniwa
has been called up in his place.

Tanaka, 30, will return home for treatment while Japan coach
Zico is
also reportedly fretting over striker Akira Kaji, who had to
be
stretchered off in the 39th minute of the friendly drawn
match against
Germany on Tuesday.

I live by myself now, so I don't watch many games on satelite
broadcasting, too. I really want to watch all games of the World Cup!!
Why do you think Nakata is favorite in Japan? He has experienced a lot?

I am pretty sure Rooney is out for the duration. Nakata is definitely my
favorite player on the Japanese squad. I wish we had a better broadcast deal
in the states. I am going to miss a lot of the action because the games wont
be on my statelite system.

In 2002, a small software house in England, Fibonacci (run by soccer-
nuts), built an online world cup wall chart just in time for the kick
off of the World Cup in Japan and South Korea.
The Fibonacci World Cup Wall Chart is an interactive, electronic
version of the traditional paper wallchart that's been around for
decades. But it can do more than that, much much more...
They were amazed to get over 25,000 downloads - And that was back in ¡¯

Now, they¡¯ve completely revamped the fantastic Fibonacci Online World

The most recent MLS team to get their own soccer-specific stadium today hosted
the team who will get theirs next (this June), in today's
"MLS First Kick" 11th season-opener on ABC Sports.

FC Dallas showed they will be a force to be reckoned with the 2006 MLS season,
beginning their campaign with an exciting 3-2 come-from-behind victory against
the Chicago Fire at Pizza Hut Park on Saturday afternoon.

Chicago's Chad Barrett opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Arturo
Alvarez answered back for the Hoops in the 31st minute. Chris Rolfe then put the
Fire back into the lead in the 54th minute, only to see FC Dallas claim the
victory with a pair of goals in a four-minute span from Roberto Mina (66') and
late sub Kenny Cooper (70').

Cooper's game-winner was his first MLS goal, scored off a header, only moments
after entering the match.

Tonight on ESPN-2, the L.A. Galaxy will host the New England Revolution in
a rematch of the 2005 MLS Cup Championship. Kickoff is at 8 pm PT.

Exclusive Report for http://sandiegomlsproject.com Wed. March 22nd

This month in Germany, The USA Men played the only two nations who defeated us
in World Cup 2002. On March 1st, 2006, we were able to beat Poland 1-0 (a WC
'02 first round opponent), but today, we were unable to defeat Germany on their
home turf before a boisterous sold-out crowd in that country's largest football
stadium. In the end, Germany outscored USA 4-1.

At halftime, the score was 0-0, and this same crowd was very quiet, but in the
second half, Germany scored FOUR goals, 3 within an 8 minute span. Team USA
obviously lost their concentration and unraveled in the final 20 minutes of
play, as the spectators became famously the 'the 12 man', cheering on the
confident German team. They were led by two of the same teammates who were so
important in the defeat of the USA in the '02 World Cup quarterfinals: Michael
Ballack (who scored the lone goal vs. USA in 2002, and one tonight), and keeper
Oliver Kahn (the 2002 World Cup MVP, also in top form tonight).

San Diego native Steve Cherundolo, now a leading defender for Team USA, scored
tonight's final goal (in 85'), his first-ever for USA (and a rarity for any
defender). He is an alumnus of Mt. Carmel High School, and was also on the
California State Champion La Jolla Nomads club team. He is expected to join
fellow defender and San Diegan native Frankie Hejduk (out today due to injury)
on the final roster for the 2006 World Cup Finals in June.

sdsoc
Offline Offline
Send Email Send Email

News from San Diego MLS Project http://sandiegomlsproject.com March 15th 2006.

A full update on the MLS expansion and San Diego's standing follows, but first
here are notes on the latest team names for Major League Soccer's new season,
which begins two weeks from this coming Saturday, April 1st (ABC, ESPN-2, FSW,
FSC).

HOUSTON DYNAMO - Only weeks after the Houston franchise was officially dubbed
"Houston 1836" (after year of city's founding), chosen by fans' online votes,
team management made an internal decision to change the moniker to DYNAMO.

This was due to the local Houston controversy, which never subsided, over the
dual historical significance of that year among Latinos and Mexican nationals.
1836 was also the year of the Alamo and other battles which resulted in
independence FROM Mexico (further resulting in founding of cities like Houston).
SO MANY locals of Mexican descent in Houston complained that the team finally
relented and renamed.

RED BULL NEW YORK - With the players themselves affectionately dubbed "the
New York Red Bulls", the official team name comes from last week's purchase of
the MetroStars by the Austrian beverage makers. This is the team who has
selected Poway HS alum and 2006 Number One pick (in the MLS SuperDraft) Marvell
Wynne.

New York is included in the name for the first time officially since the 2000
season (they had been called NY/NJ MetroStars), though the team will continue to
play in New Jersey for the time being at the MetroStars former home, Giants
Stadium. The team's new stadium, which will be co-financed by partners
including Red Bull, with AEG (who co-built STAPLES Center and HOME DEPOT
Center), will also stand
in New Jersey, but the team's official name will remain RED BULL NEW YORK.

   Expansion News Update:

The city of Toronto, Ontario, with NHL Maple Leafs owners as business
partners, will build a new soccer-specific stadium complex there, and will host
the first-ever MLS franchise in Canada. They were already named as the league's
13th team back in November 2005. A 14th team will join them for the 12th MLS
season in 2007.

San Jose CA will have stadium issues to work out, but assuming they can do
that soon, they could field a new branded Earthquakes team in 2007 or 2008.
Other cities on the fast track to MLS franchises are Philadelphia PA (the only
metro area larger than San Diego still without a team), Atlanta GA, Tulsa OK,
and the two current frontrunners to be included in teams 14-16, Milwaukee WI and
Cleveland OH. Milwaukee has the most popular MISL team this season, and a
successful outdoor version of the Wave, too. Cleveland would like to have the
third MLS in-state rivalry, competing with Columbus Crew (club team of USMNT
defender, Cardiff's Frankie Hejduk). Both of those city governments are likely
to share in their MLS plans.

San Diego will need to concentrate on vying for the 17th or 18th spots, and
this is why our public Project Phase, as well as our website (which debuted on
MLS Cup Championship day 16 weeks ago), was dubbed Target:2010. While this IS
realistic, it is by no means assured that we'd have a team in place by then,
even in the best of circumstances. We are in the process of setting up our
first official public meetings and workshops, and expect to meet with several
local city and tribal councils through this spring, summer, and beyond. We are
happy to see that so many numerous localities have expressed initial interest in
hosting our region's MLS team, so we have full confidence that San Diego WILL
have their own MLS franchise.. and soon.

We invite all of you to get involved and support our common cause in any way.
Thank you for all of you interest and support shown during the first 15 weeks
of our website's existence: Numbers of visitors have far surpassed our
expectations.
We DO aim high: Now we know there are SO MANY MORE of you out there with
the same desire, so we know the community together WILL reach OUR GOAL !

Perhaps unsurprisingly the big match at the Camp Nou between Barcelona
and Chelsea was goalless at half time but there were surprises at the
Stadio Delle Alpi and El Madrigal.

Johan Micoud stunned the Juventus faithful when in practically Werder
Bremen's first attack on goal he chipped a through pass from Christian
Schulz over the advancing Gianluigi Buffon's head (12') to give the
German club a 4:2 aggregate goals lead.
Undoubedly an unhappy Fabio Capello will make changes at the
interval……………..

In a replay of last year's first leg match at Barcelona a Chelsea
player was sent off in controversial circumstances in the first half.
Asier Del Horno's collision with Lionel Messi earning the Chelsea
defender his marching orders.
Both players bottled out of a tackle and rolled theatrically on the
ground.
Messi -with one eye on the referee - won the Oscar.
No goals at half time and a 10 man Chelsea committed to defense..........

World Cup winner Tiffeny Milbrett is set to join the Chelsea Ladies FC.

The 35-year-old, who won the 1999 World Cup and Olympic gold in 1996 with Team
USA, has scored 100 goals in 204 appearances for her country.

Canada's Christine Sinclair has also signed to play for Chelsea in the FA
Women's Premier League. Chelsea director of communications Simon Greenberg
said the club is waiting for work permits for the pair. "If we can't get
the necessary approvals for this season we will be looking at next season,"
Greenberg said Monday. "This is not just about bringing them in in the short
term." More at http://foxsoccer.com

PLEASE DISTRIBUTE (and that goes double if you have a team or business...
you might be surprised how many people never heard this before !)

   Yahoo Sports: SOCCER http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/soccer

The word "soccer" was coined by the British...
Clubs were referred to as: Association Football.

Soccer comes from the shortening of the word Association.

   Association ->Assoc.
Assocer -> Person pertaining/belonging to (a) Football association.
   Assocer -> Soccer.

Soccer came to mean the sport itself, not only a participant.

The term was used in England first, and still is used there today, alongside
football and "footie".

American football, on the other hand, did not derive its name (by copying)
from soccer-football, but was named after the actual ball used, the "football"
taken from rugby, which is still the same unique shape and size today.

So... short story, when someone argues with you that the word soccer is an
"Americanism", you can tell them how wrong they are...

   Have
fun!! http://sandiegomlsproject.com San Diego MLS Project

The teams were drawn on Monday, January 30th, bringing the
competition one step closer to its conclusion.

The doubtless spark of this round will be the clash between
Liverpool and Manchester United on Anfield Road. Will Liverpool's
home advantage over currently crippling red devils be enough for
them to eliminate Man Utd or will the sleeping giant finally awake?

Other interesting matches will be the the visit of Brentford from
League one to Charlton's stadium and Colchester will have to face
the winner of the Everton-Chelsea replay.

Here is the complete draw:

FA Cup Fifth Round Fixtures

Preston North End or Crystal Palace vs. Coventry City or
Middlesbrough

Newcastle United vs. Southampton

Aston Villa vs. Manchester City

Everton or Chelsea vs. Colchester United

Charlton Athletic vs. Brentford

Liverpool vs. Manchester United

Bolton Wanderers vs. West Ham United

Stoke City vs. Reading or Birmingham City

As of today, January 27th, the draw for the UEFA Euro 2008 is now a
