interesting results to the end of the qualifications. Who will head on
for glory to the Euro 2008 and who will stand in the shadow and watch?
Time will show...
Starting with Group A the finalists from the previous Euro 2004
Portugal will have to face Poland and Serbia & Montenegro, in the

Tonight, Landon Donovan became Major League Soccer's
all-time leader in postseason goals,
scoring both in the LA Galaxy's 2-0 win over the
Colorado Rapids in the Western Conference Championship
(played at Invesco Field in Denver).
In the 28th minute, he capitalized on a brilliant pass
from Cobi Jones, and in the 88th minute, Landon sealed
the deal unassisted. Galaxy will play the Eastern

Yahoo Sports Update: TT gets the "Boot" from MLS for 2005, Revs into Conference
Finals
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/soccer
Taylor Twellman awarded 2005 GOLDEN BOOT
for his 17 goals during regular season...
New Taylor Twellman Community at orkut,
http://www.orkut.com/Community.aspx?cmm=6154219
It is the second scoring championship for Twellman, who becomes just the second
player to win the award more than once, having also taken the prize in his first
MLS season in 2002, when it also included assists.
"It means a lot," Twellman said of capturing the Golden Boot. "The last year and
a half has been pretty difficult, including this year. At the end of the day, if
we don't win the championship it (doesn't mean much) to me."
The Revolution have put themselves in a great position to claim their first MLS
Cup, thanks in no small part to Twellman's consistent contributions. New England
finished atop the Eastern Conference with 59 points from a 17-7-8 record. On
several occasions this season Twellman struck late to win or tie games for the
Revolution, including in the season opener.
The Revs, the Eastern Conference's best team, will meet the Chicago Fire in the
Conference Final this weekend to see who goes on to the MLS Cup on Nov. 13th.

breaking story posted to Arsenal Fans Worldwide at Yahoo Sports,
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/arsenalfansworldwide
Martin Jol believes his Tottenham side can finally put an end to
Arsenal's domination of north London derbies when the two teams do
battle again at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Spurs last put one over on their fiercest rivals six years ago but
times are changing and Jol's side go into the game sitting in third
place in the Barclays Premiership - five places above Arsene
Wenger's side.
"1999 - that must have been the last time we beat Arsenal," said Jol.
"Was it 2-1 or something? Six years, but since then Arsenal have
been a top side and Wenger has done a very good job over there.
"I put that mildly, as Arsenal are one of the best teams over the
past decade, so Wenger must also be one of the best over the last
decade.
"But, the thing is that we are above them in the league now and
hopefully we can stay in that position."
Jol believes the game will enable everyone to see that his team's
place in the table is merited and was quick to point out that since
the turn of the year, they have lost just once at home - 2-0 to
champions Chelsea earlier this season.
"It's the only home game we have with them this year - hopefully we
won't get them in the FA Cup - so it's a good opportunity to show
everybody we are a bit better than last year.
"We shouldn't forget that since December last year we only lost at
home to Chelsea and that's a very good thing."
Meanwhile, Jol has praised Arsenal's stars for their hilarious
penalty disaster against Manchester City at Highbury.
Arsenal's Robert Pires and Thierry Henry became a laughing stock
when they tried to conjure up a clever spot-kick move.
Pires failed to roll the ball into the path of Henry and the chance
to score was gone in seconds as City's defenders sprinted into the
area to clear.
But rather than continue the humiliation of the pair, the Spurs
coach said he was impressed by their creativity.
"It was very creative thinking," he said. "But when you saw
Holland's Johan Cruyff do the same thing, and I saw it a thousand
times, he laid the ball off with the inside of the foot and not with
the studs.
"I thought it was very brave but the Manchester City players were
quicker than they were. That is one of the risks of doing that.
Cruyff did it differently - he laid if off and he laid it back and
they scored."
Jol does not believe any of his players would contemplate following
Arsenal's lead but if they did, he would only have a good laugh
about it once they won the game by a margin of two or three goals.
"I would have a good laugh and maybe a beer with them if it is two
or three nil. I don't think Arsenal will do it again because they
know that we know about it now."
Jol will be boosted by the news that Henry has just a 30% chance of
playing in the game while Spurs will be without the suspended Edgar
Davids in midfield.

Sunday's MLS Playoff,
Western Conference Semifinal, 1st leg.
EARTHQUAKES at GALAXY
Ex-San Diego Socker and San Diego Gaucho HERCULEZ GOMEZ scored
first for L.A., LANDON DONOVAN scored the other 2 in the 3-1 win over
San Jose Earthquakes at the Home Depot Center.
This was Landon's first playoff appearance with Galaxy against his old
team (who he left last year), and with whom he won the 2003 MLS Cup as
captain.

MLS playoffs report - Conference Semifinals - First Leg

DC United 0 - 0 Chicago Fire
FC Dallas 0 - 0 Colorado Rapids
New England Revolution 0 - 1 NY/NJ Metrostars...
Amado Guevara scored in the first half and Tony Meola made three saves
for the shutout, leading the MetroStars to a 1-0 victory over the New
England Revolution in the first game of the Eastern Conference
semifinal series on Saturday night.
The victory gives the MetroStars the upper hand in the home-and-home
aggregate goal series, which continues next Saturday at Gillette
Stadium. The MLS playoffs air on Fox Soccer Channel, ESPN 2, and
others, with November 13's MLS Cup Championship in Dallas on ABC.
Tottenham held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League
on Saturday, while Arsenal missed a bizarre penalty in its 1-0 win
over Manchester City.
The draw at Old Trafford continued Tottenham's best ever start to a
Premier League season. Spurs stay second with 19 points, eight
points behind leader Chelsea.
Manchester United is third with 18 points. Arsenal is two points
further behind.
In other Saturday results, it was Aston Villa 0, Wigan 2; Fulham 2,
Liverpool 0; and Blackburn 2, Birmingham 0. Later, Portsmouth hosts
Charlton.
At Old Trafford, United took the lead after seven minutes when
Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson dropped a Ruud van Nistelrooy
header and Mikael Silvestre kicked it into the goal.
Jermaine Jenas leveled in the 72nd minute with a free kick that
curled into the top corner.
"I think today was probably a fair result," United manager Alex
Ferguson said. "We cannot do anything about Chelsea, all we can do
is concentrate on our own results. We have to collect as many points
as we can and try to stay as close as possible."
Tottenham hasn't won at Old Trafford since the Premier League began
in 1992. Its last win at Old Trafford was in 1989.
"The pressure is on Manchester United to win the Premiership, but we
felt we could win," Tottenham manager Martin Jol said. "While I
still expect Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool to
finish in the top four, maybe we are not far away."
