What's in a name? I'll tell you

The ASA says within a matter of months it will have changed its name to Football
Australia. For a start, it brings Australia into line with the rest of the world
- but more than that, in my opinion it re-establishes some ownership of a word
that somehow (in Australia at least) has become synonymous with other sports...

On European whinging about the World Club Championship

This month's Intercontinental Cup playoff in Tokyo will be the last in a series.
A long series. It began in 1960 and lasted 45 years. Some will say good riddance
to it and will equally declare its replacement, the World Club Championship,
which resumes next December, as an unwelcome waste of time.
