BONN, Germany: Japan defender Makoto Tanaka has been ruled
out of the
World Cup after suffering a thigh injury and FC Tokyo's
Teruyuki Moniwa
has been called up in his place.
Tanaka, 30, will return home for treatment while Japan coach
Zico is
also reportedly fretting over striker Akira Kaji, who had to
be
stretchered off in the 39th minute of the friendly drawn
match against
Germany on Tuesday.
