Speed is an important factor in power
ke = 1/2m^2 but follow through is equally important. The damage to an attacker
is not done at impact it's done during the follow through phase. Whether this
follow through is a snap or a complete follow through the damage does not take
place on touch

Step by Step Learning Martial Arts Internal Energy Strikes by Kirkham
http://kirkhamsebooks.com/MartialArts/InternalEnergyStrikesEbook_m.htm
Had another conversation with Dave
recently. In which he spoke about punching technique. Specifically,
the
kind
of blow, power wise, you should be looking to deliver. He maintained
that
you should go for speed. So that, if you were hitting a punching
bag,
it
would jump vertically from the strike, rather that swing back.
Striking the other way, so that the bag would swing violently back,
was
more
akin to a push, he believed. And as a result, less effective.
This flew in the face of what I have adhered to when practicing my
strikes,
ever since reading the parallel Dave once drew between the movement
of
an
Olympic shot putter, and the delivery of a palm heal. To my mind,
this
example showed clearly the benefit to be had from exploding through
you
blow. Rather, than striking with a blow that finished maybe half an
inch
behind the point of initial contact.
But I would be interested to see what everyone else thinks on this.
