TORONTO (AP) - Alexandre Daigle is leaning toward
taking a year off from hockey, according to the Hockey
News' Web site. The site says the 25-year-old Daigle,
the NHL's top draft pick in 1993,<br>will announce
his plans shortly. "He's going through a period of
reflection," Daigle's agent Pat Brisson told the Hockey
News.<br><br>"He's not sure he wants to play. He wants to be
passionate about his game. He wants to be happy. He doesn't
want to cheat himself or any team that signs him."
Daigle has never lived up to those<br>expectations. He
became an unrestricted free agent July 1 afterthe New
York Rangers didn't re-sign him. "When it turned July
1 and he became an unrestricted free agent, he
wasn't as<br>pre-occupied as most players would be,"
Brisson said. Daigle had just eight goals and 18 assists
in 58 games last season. He has 100 goals and 141
assists overall in 459 games.
