USA TODAY/AVCA women's top 25

Long Beach State overtakes Nebraska at No. 1

ARLINGTON, Va. - It may have come a month late, but Long Beach State
finally overtook Nebraska at the top of the USA TODAY/AVCA Top 25
Coaches' Poll. The undefeated 49ers beat the then-No.1 Cornhuskers on Sept.
1 but failed to move ahead of Nebraska in the rankings despite winning on
the court.

The vote was by a razor-thin margin, with the Cornhuskers (10-1) actually
receiving 33 first-place votes to the 49ers' 32. But Long Beach State (9-0)
received 1,592 points in the overall voting, three more than Nebraska's
1,589.

Elsewhere, there was little change in the Top 25. Southern California jumped
two spots to No. 3 while Stanford and UCLA rounded out the top five. Texas
dropped out of the rankings after being ranked No. 23 last week and was
replaced by Kansas State, which reentered the rankings at No. 25.
