I understand that coaching credentials are being required for high
school coaches next year...if so, please let me know how the USAV
Puget Sound Region can help, or if Women's Sports Foundation can
help...
I am the Director of The Starlings Club, Seattle which is a
volleyball program started by two former Olympians, Byron Shewman and
Kim Oden. They are targetting inner city kids which are mostly
African-Americans or Native Americans...if you would like to be
considered for this group, please email back and I will get you
connected. I realize that some of you are not able to travel far,
but maybe a small league or intra city format could be used.
The Starlings had a directors meeting in San Diego, California last
January and are now having their own National Championships in San
Diego in July...it sounds like a great time and I believe the
Portland, Oregon team will be going. Seattle is still putting a team
together as most of the girls want to play basketball.
If there are other clinics and/or camps you need info on in
Washington State, please advise. We seem to be the closest city for
your coaches to come to outside of Alaska, so anything we can do to
assist, we would welcome the thought...
I am also on the Executive Board for USAV, Puget Sound Region. We
have the volleyvan coming in July to service our youth in about 10
different cities the week of 17 to 22 July and if you can afford to
send a group, they can travel with the van and help out and learn at
the same time...just a thought.
Anyway, regards to Virgil Hooe if he is still commissioner...I was
once a commissioner for the Evergreen Region (now split in two).
Thankx...hope we can help out some way...Diane Taniguchi, Volleyball
