At the indoor world chalmpionships in Moscow, Meseret Defar has won the 3000m. She ran in second or third position until the last 400m. Then she accelerated and she ran the final lap in less than 28 seconds. Her total time was 8.38, a championships record. Defar was already defending champion and olympic champion on the 5000m.
