We are very excited about Austin's first expedition race and we want
to give you a little glimpse into what we have in store for you.
The AT EXP has 19 legs with 32 checkpoints and 9 boat landings with
a mandatory overnight dark zone. You will have amazing views from
the water and well above. At times you will forget that you are so
close to Austin as you discover wilderness settings featuring some
of the most beautiful creeks, waterfalls and scenery the hill
country has to offer.
Essentially this race is a two day stage race. Start time on
Saturday will be 8:00 am at Mansfield Dam Park on Lake Travis.
Saturday cut off time is 10:00 pm. Sunday the race will resume with
a mass start at 6:00 am with a mandatory cut off at 5:00 pm. Race
finish at Walsh Boat Ramp near Tom Miller Dam (next to Hula Hut)
GPS Tracking
The Aqua Terra Racing is pleased to offer GPS route-tracking for
the Expedition race. For an additional $20 (payable at race check
in), teams will be loaned a small GPS tracking device (smaller than
most cell phones) that will record their exact whereabouts for the
duration of the race. After the race is completed, the data will be
extracted from the tracking devices and a web page map will be
built, showing each teams' routes, the location of the checkpoints,
and time/distance markers. For more details on this exciting new
service, visit www.route-mapper.com, and be sure to look at some of
the example "Route Maps".
Spectators and Family:
One of the fun things about this race will be that there are plenty
of accessible places for spectators to follow the race. Locations
will be given out at the pre-race meeting for racers with friends or
family that would like to watch. Remember racers may not receive
assistance of any kind during the race or during the mandatory dark
zone. This means no outside food, chairs, vehicles, coolers, or
anything that you did not carry yourself into the park via boat.
Hugs and kisses are okay. Racers will be required to camp inside
designated race area. Violation of this rule will result in
disqualification. Overnight camping location will be disclosed after
race start. Any non-racers that wish to camp must pay for their own
entry and camp site.
For full pre-race letter check the forum at www.aquaterrarace.com.
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer at a checkpoint
or you just want to come out and watch the race, please feel free to
email us. While we hate to turn away racers, the close date of
Wednesday, October 3rd will be firm as we have to order special maps
by that date. Thanks again, we look forward to seeing you all for a
very exciting weekend! Mike and Deb
