6 week training program hosted by Austin Adventure Racing Team March
8th thru April 12, 2007. Learn the basics of adventure racing to get
you through your first sprint race...the Too Cool Inks Lake Sprint

03.08.07 Orientation night: Adventure Racing 101 will be taught by
coaches Richard McCormick and Gayla Harris of Dyanmic Health, find
out what to wear, what to eat, what gear to use, meet the program
coaches, ask questions, take notes, review the upcoming clinics.
03.15.07 Mt. Bike 101: Coaches Rick and Tammy Killebrew will put you
through a basic skills course and Beth Reyburn of Hammerhead Bikes
will teach a basic mechanics class so you will know how to fix a
flat quickly during a race or make a chain repair.
03.22.07 Paddling skills: Coach Mike Drost will teach paddle stroke
and positioning in the boat to maximize your efficiency.
03.29.07 Navigation: Coach Paul Murphy will teach the basic nav
skills that you will need to sucessfully navigate the Too Cool
Sprint Races.
04.05.07 Team and transition skills workout: This will be a fun
night combining a mini paddle, bike and navigation practice with a
few team challenges similar to what you might experience in a race.
04.07.07 Practice race: Race director Tom Lane will set up a 2 hour
practice race designed to create a real race experience open to all
AAR members. Location will be announced but most likely Zilker Park
where we can get boat rentals if needed.
04.12.07 Pre-race Q & A night: Coaches and AAR members will be on
hand for a last minute question and answer night before the BIG race.
04.14.07 Too Cool Inks Lake Sprint Race
Cost: $100 per person. Includes 6 weeks of training, 07 AAR
Membership, T shirt, AAR decal, $25 in race coupons and a discount
on the Inks Lake Sprint Race. Participants that sign up for the
training program at the REI Adventure Race Night March 5th will
receive a special discount.

To participate in the training program you will need a bike helmet,
mountain bike, running shoes, Camelbak, headlamp, and compass. 25
max participants, 10 minimum. This training program will be designed
for beginners or for people that just want to get into shape for the
race season. There will not be any technical mountain biking, only a
skills clinic and basic mechanics class.
