One night while Parul was all alone and working at the office a mail popped up in her mailbox. The name of the sender was Rahul Mehra. She had not met him, never heard about him. Just out of curiosity she checked his mail. The content of the mail was
Hi Parul,
I see you every night sitting in the office till very late. Dont you have friends? Dont you feel like talking to your roommate?
You should not sit very late in the office. this is a genuine advice from me.
Thanks,
Rahul Mehra
After reading the mail, Parul was very angry on the sender. She simply deleted the mail and said to herself who is he to give me any advice?. She again got back to her work.
After that night, every night Rahul would keep sending her mails and Parul would simply delete them without even reading the content of the mail. But one fine night the subject line attracted her and she had to open the mail. The subject line of the mail was Hi Gorgeous
Hi Gorgeous,
Yes today you are looking very gorgeous in this red saree. I know you dont read my mails as you dont like the advices I give you.
So today I wont give you any advice, I will just say that I am love with you. You know you are very beautiful and if you take care of yourself many men will fall in love with you.
I am sure someday you will also fall in love with me. And then we will go out for a date.
Oh before I end the mail I must tell you that the best thing about is that smile. Or is it those intense which needs some sleep at the moment.
Take care dear.
Love you.
Rahul Mehra.
After reading the mail she was shocked. A person she had never met, never seen, never spoke to was saying that he was in love with her. She started thinking was this always in his mind. How did he get her id? Where had he seen her? Many questions like this came in her mind. Finally she thought of giving a warning and replied to his mail.
Hi Rahul,
I dont want to spoil your career but if you dont stop sending me mails I will raise an ASHI against you.
Thanks and Regards,
Parul Jain
After this mail, the mails from Rahul stopped coming in Paruls inbox. She thought that finally Rahul has got scared and wont be mailing her again. After several nights, Parul was resting on her chair and her eyes closed. When she opened her eyes she saw Rahuls mail in her mailbox.
Hi Gorgeous,
With your closed eyes you were dreaming about me, right? Oh sorry for not sending any mails in the last few days.
I was a little busy. I am sure you would have missed me a lot.
One more thing before I forget I want to say that I am not scared of ASHI. An ASHI cant be a reason to stop loving you.
Love you.
Rahul Mehra
Parul was twisting her hair and putting them behind her ears. At that moment itself another mail came from Rahul,
Now stop playing with your hair and leave the office. it is very late.
Love.
Rahul Mehra
Parul was shocked as to how did this person know what she was doing on her desk. She got up to check whether anyone was there in her floor but could find only empty cubicles. She thought maybe he made a wild guess and decided to leave the office. before leaving she saw another mail from Rahul.
Hi Parul,
Searching for me??? You have started falling in love with me. J
Love you.
Rahul Mehra
Parul was shocked and scared to hell. She simply switched off her machine and ran outside the office. in the next few days she would not open any mails sent by Rahul. One night a mail with subject line Dont be scared of me came to her mailbox. First she thought to ignore the mail then she thought lets see what has Rahul written this time.
Hi Parul,
Dont be scared of me. I can say that you are scared of me because of the way you ran out from the office the last time you read my mail.
I know few minutes back you had gone to have coffee. You are thinking how I know this because I can feel you around me.
Only once you also start feeling me you will know that I am near to you. Very near. Just sitting next to you.
I will wait for the night when you start having the same feelings for me.
Will always love you.
Rahul Mehra
Now Parul started thinking was Rahul really in love with her? What he was saying was it true? But how could he know so much about her? How could he say what she was doing and what not? Parul thought lets give a try and see whether Rahul is always in love with her or not. From that night she also started replying to his mail.
Hi Parul,
Do you feel bad if I call you gorgeous?
Love you.
Rahul Mehra
Paruls reply:
Yes Rahul. I dont like this word.
You can address me as Parul, isnt it short and simple. and I love my name a lot.
Thanks and Regards,
Parul Jain
Rahuls reply:
Point noted Parul. But when I am happy, excited I would call you with some special name at that time.
Tomorrow you have your certification so all the best for that.
Love you.
Rahul Mehra
Parul was again shocked as to how does he know about her certification. She had never told him. She replied
Rahul,
Who is the person who is giving you details about me? I had not told you about my certification how do you know it?
Thanks and regards,
Parul Jain
Rahul replied back to her
< style="TEXT- ALIGN: center; FONT-FAMILY: trebuchet ms,sans-serif" class=MsoNormal align=center>I know it because I in front of you. Cant you see me? Cant you feel me close to you?
I also know that after 3 days you have your appraisal. Now this you have not told anyone. Just your PM knows about it.
Do you think your PM will give me all these details?
Love you.
Rahul Mehra
Parul not sure of the answer. She knew her PM would not have told Rahul all this but how did Rahul know so much about her was a mystery for her. Finally she thought she will talk to her PM, Rohan.
Next day, she went to her PMs desk. Hi Rohan. I wanted to ask you something.
Rohan:- Sure Parul. Are having any issues?
Parul:- No. actually I wanted to know about a person named Rahul Mehra.
Rohan was shocked on hearing that name. PM:- How did you come across this name. has anyone told you about him?
Parul:- No one has said anything to me about him. Few days back he started sending me e-mails. First I ignored but then he would give such details which I did just few minutes back. He even knows my appraisal date.
Rohan:- Are you sure you got mails from Rahul Mehra only?
Parul:- Yes very much. But why do you looked shock?
Rohan:- Because Rahul Mehra died 2 years back. He use to sit at the same place where you are sitting. How can a dead person send mails to you.
Parul was shocked. She didnt know how to react to this.
Rohan:- If you dont believe me then you can try finding his name in the telephone directory. Maybe someone told you about him and because of work stress you started imagining that he is sending you mails.
Parul:- I am not imagining anything. He has really send me a mail. I can show you in my mailbox.
Rohan:- Okay Parul I believe you but still I think you should take a break and go home.
Parul was still in shock with the news she got from Rohan. She just did a search on telephone directory for a name with Rahul Mehra and page returned no records. She again checked the mail id and employee number details. She did a search many times that day by putting various combinations but the search page displayed the same message No matches found for the given search criteria. She could not believe that someone could hack the system and send mails to her from an non-existing id. She attached the mails sent by Rahul and sent it to Rohan as a proof that she was not dreaming.
On seeing the attached mails even Rohan was in shock. He came to Paruls desk. Rohan:- I think by mistake his id has not been deleted and someone who knows about it is playing with it.
Parul:- But I checked the details on telephone directory there are no records available for this id.
Rohan:- Talk to the CCD people and see what they have to say.
She called up the CCD people. They took control over her system and looked at the mail sent by Rahul Mehra. The mail was sent from the from the same computer which Parul was using. The time stamp at which the mails were sent Parul had logged in. Also there was no evidence that a remote desktop connection was made or mail was sent through web mail. Even the CCD people were clueless as to how a mail has been sent from a non-existing id and from Paruls system itself. There were no viruses or torjans or any other kind of threats on Paruls system. Her anti-virus was upto date. The whole day was gone in finding a loophole as to how did Parul get such a mail in her mailbox. Parul was tierd from the days happening and so she decided to leave early from the office that day.
The next day when Parul came back, she saw a mail from Rahul Mehra. She didnt know whether she should delete that mail or read that mail. She was scared to open the mail. Somehow she gained some courage and opened the mail. The context of the mail was:-
Hi Parul,
Good to see that you left the office early tonight. I know Rohan told you about my death.
I was also a workaholic like you. I would sit late in the office, even when no one was around me.
I just being at office. I had no friends, no social life. Even on weekends I would use to come to office.
I missed all the fun in my life. Even my death happened at office while I was working.
My dead body was found by the house keeping guy and the security guard at the reception.
I took a lot of work stress which my conscious mind could not bear that day. I ignored all the health problems I was having.
And finally on that night (20. 10. 07, 11:24 PM) all these reasons became responsible for my death.
Now you know why I am not scared of ASHI.
But yes if I was alive then also I wont be scared of ASHI because I have really fallen in love with you but we cant be together until your death.
Now the choice is yours whether you will kill yourself on your own or whether I need to do the honors.

I already sent 100k pounds to that account!!! Paano na? Will you pay me back? Hehehe, kidding. Couldn't help myself. Thanks for the warning.
I heard PRISAA is end of the month. Will try to go to help out the team. They're doing fine though on their own. You've got to be proud of them. Hope to see you then if ever.

To all my contacts:
Recently, there's was a message sent to all of my contacts that I went to London and asked for an amount of money to pay off my hotel dues and other debts.
It was last week that I opened my e-mail. A window prompted on my computer screen, asking for the details(yahoo ID and password) of my yahoo mail account. I filled it out, believing that it was one of the process to check the security of yahoo mails. I didn't hesitate to give information since it seemed to be a yahoo window.
Then, some of my friends (who were in my yahoo contacts) were trying to contact me and asking me of the said sited incident. Then, I checked out my e-mail and find out that my password was already replaced with a new one. My e-mail was hacked by someone and sent a message to all my contacts.
Fortunately, after forty-eight (48) hours, I was able to access again my e-mail address.
I would like to ask for apology to
whatever discomfort and inconvenience that this incident has caused you. I also advise that you do not send out information and fill out prompting windows and popped out boxes from a computer (especially, those computers in the internet cafes) whenever you use the internet.

This is just the tip of the cruelty of humans. Massacres are also in Murambi and Sudan of humans.
Denmark is a big shame The sea is stained in red and in the mean while its not because of the climate effects of nature.
It's because of the cruelty that the human beings (civilised human) kill hundreds of the famous and intelligent Calderon dolphins.
This happens every year in Feroe iland in Denmark. In this slaughter the main participants are young teens. WHY? To show that they are adults and mature.... BULLSH*T In this big celebration, nothing is missing for the fun. Everyone is participating in one way or the other, killing or looking at the cruelty “supporting like a spectator” Is it
necessary to mention that the dolphin calderon, like all the other species of dolphins, it’s near instinction and they get near men to play and interact. In a way of PURE friendship
They don’t die instantly; they are cut 1, 2 or 3 times with thick hocks. And at that time the dolphins produce a grim extremely compatible with the cry of a new born child. But he suffers and there’s no compassion till this sweet being slowly dies in its own blood Its enough! We will send this mail until this email arrives in any association defending the animals, we won’t only read. That would make us accomplices, viewers. Take care of the world, it is your home!

It was my first time to watch in an international tournament. The moment I
entered the stadium, grabe, excited of course! Star struck! Speechless!
everything! hihi..OA nga..but at the middle of the middle of the game I noticed
a lot of things and can't help but notice (and compare it to our "ways")the
"intimate" details of the players and most of all, the game.
Observations:
1. During time outs, all the substitute players would go near the court and warm
themselves up while the playing 6 would huddle. (sa atin all substitute players
would just sit on the bench and i think it only shows that kahit d cla makipag
huddle, they know what to do once inside the court)
2. Substitute players dont sit on the bench, they stay behind the bench (mga 3
meters away) and take note, nakatayo lang talaga and continuous cheering.
3. After every set, ALL the players would go to the middle and warm themselves
up.
4. They do the same exercises we do.
5. I also realized that we do not have to make things complicated during gamea.
SHOWING OFF IS DEFNTELY NOT AN OPTION. They do it easyily because they go back
to the BASICS! (even their best setter, gumagamit ng underhand pass just to set
the ball perfectly).
6. Bihira ang napipikon sa kanila.haha!
7. And know what? I felt their PASSION and RESPECT for every set and spike that
they did. HOW? well, ewan.. I just felt it kasi every time they score for a play
well done, they cheered for one another and NEVER ako nakakita ng nagtaunt
against their opponent.
8. Regarding teamwork naman, well, it was defntely obvious! pagnatumba isa
sakanila, pplitin nung iba na mhabol ang ball even if sila mismo matumba.
Well, these are the little things that we usually forget. BUt these are also the
things that can make us WIN. yeah?

I delivered the invocation to AGMA (Annual General Membership Assembly) of CASURECO II last October 31, 2009 held at the Civic Center , Naga City . And here is my story.
I received a call inviting me to give an invocation to AGMA on October 31, 1pm at the Civic Center . I did not know what AGMA stood for and it did not sound CASURECO. I am not a CASURECO insider and I have not heard of any coming General Assembly of Consumers. I only know about the internal bickering between Msgr. Zosimo “Nono” Sanado and Jane Barrameda. After checking my calendar, I said “yes.” After all, this is a duty intrinsically related to my priesthood. Judging at a beauty pageant or a bikini open is another thing.
A day later, I found out from another friend that this is related to CASURECO II. The camp of Jane Barrameda would hold the Assembly at CASURECO II while the camp of Msgr. Sanado would be held at the Civic Center . This confused me. Will there be two assemblies? Maybe there is only one, the one at Civic Center and that finally, there is an agreement on both sides to hold just one assembly. There was just one doubt I had. Maybe, they decided to meet head on and find myself squeezed in the middle. With that scenario, I’d rather excuse myself and go elsewhere.
On October 30, Fr. Dan Imperial told me that Msgr. Sanado issued a very long memo canceling or postponing the General Assembly due to typhoon. That news made my life easy.
However, that evening, I got a call telling me that AGMA will push through and the program will begin at 10am instead. By this time, it was clear to me that I would be giving an invocation to the Barrameda group. But why the Civic Center? At that moment, my judgment was: wait and see. If the weather permits, then I would go and perform my priestly and prophetic duty.
The weather turned in favor of the Barrameda group. The sun was shining and smiling. And so, was the Barrameda camp. DWNX was not a big help at all to Msgr. Sanado in giving a better forecast. Many came. More than a thousand. Many unfamiliar faces. Shortly after I arrived, Congressman Villafuerte also arrived escorted by the mayors of the second district. I did not come near him nor greeted him. You will find no photos of me shaking hands with him. After the roll call and the declaration of a quorum, I was asked to give the invocation. This is what I prepared and read:
Amen.
I never said anything against the Local Government of Naga, nor anything against the DWNX Dance Showdown during Peñafrancia Fiesta. I never said anything against my brother priest, Msgr. “Nono” Sanado. And I maintain my distance from their issues.
Then, I left the Assembly even before the Congressman could lambaste anyone in my presence.
Now, DWNX is accusing me of showing “my true color” obviously making the conclusion that my comments against the Local Government of Naga is motivated by my alleged loyalty to Robredo’s archenemy. This display of closed mindedness is unfortunate but not surprising. After all, DWNX is a mouthpiece of Robredo, as the entire world knows.
Yes, I have shown my true color, as I always do. And my only color is this: I am committed to my prophetic role: to denounce evil and to announce the gospel. I will not excuse myself only because I would be subject of a radio station’s tirades. And I will not fall prey to their obsession to provoke me so I would sink to a level that would insult common sense and good judgment.
I share this with you in the light of the challenge of our recently concluded retreat. The priesthood cannot be undermined by politicians and radio stations. We, priests, must not be afraid of wolves if we are determined to build His kingdom.

The Concept of GOLDEN FORMULA
For the first time in an FIVB tournament, a new rule will be trialled during the
FIVB Men's Club World Volleyball Championship Doha 2009 in order to "keep the
ball flying" and add value to a rally for the spectator.
The Golden Formula playing system requires that the first attack for each team
begins from the back row in an attempt to produce longer rallies.
The amendment intends to increase the duration of rally in order to "keep the
ball flying" and to reduce interruptions. The most admirable scores that draw
cheer and applause of fans are those finishing lengthy rallies as ther are
effortful and diversified, attract the masses and hold them inn tension.
This is quite an exciting innovation to our volleyball rules, indeed longer
rallies are more interesting to watch.

If this is true, why are there many volunteers in different social groups na ang na-receive lang na mga donations ay galing sa mga kababayan natin. And yet donations from around the globe na higit na mas marami sa maaaring ma-receive naten locally are just being piled up in storage warehouses dahil walang volunteers. Siguro naman alam ng mga volunteers na may mga donations coming from different countries that were given to our government that needs to be distributed so I doubt na walang pupunta do'n to volunteer. Please pass....

Dear friends,
I’m asking your help to spread the word. Tulungan po ninyo akong ikalat ito. Beyond this, we should also demand action. I disabled a plugin so you can copy the photos of relief goods rotting in DSWD warehouses. You can link this post to your blogs, facebook, websites etc. You can also email the photos.
Philippine News (US based Philippine newspaper) will use this as its front page story this week. Every Filipino has the right to know where the tons of donations from the UN and other counties go. Kahit po nakakahiya sa mga nag-donate. Kung sa ganitong paraan, matutulungan natin ang mga nasalanta, then by all means, let’s do it.
For those who have
the time, please try to volunteer sa DSWD warehouses. Getting in was not easy. A friend had to put in a word for us.
Please read on and good luck to us.

Kahapon, tinanong ng Philippine News si DSWD Secretary Esperanza Cabral:
Editor of Philippine News: Why are the relief goods in DSWD warehouses not moving?
This short interview was done over the phone. Philippine News wanted to hear her side pero ayaw niyang makipag-usap sa press..
I don’t want to accuse her of corruption but at the very least she is showing signs of being totally incompetent. We are in a state of calamity where
every second counts. May namamatay araw-araw dahil sa sakit.
In my opinion, these deaths could have been prevented if Secretary Cabral had tried a little harder to do her job.
Deaths from Philippine storms nears 1,000
“Tropical Storm Ketsana left 420 dead and 37 missing when it flooded 80 percent of Manila on September 26, a disaster the government said affected 4.35 million people.
Some areas are still flooded three weeks later and 189,000 people remain in evacuation centres,
Typhoon Parma hit the northern Philippines on October 3 and lingered as a tropical storm for a week, triggering landslides that killed 438 people and leaving 51 missing mostly in mountain communities.
The government agency said Parma affected 4.16 million people, including more than 32,000 who remain at evacuation centres.”
During
the first week after the storm, lumabas ang “bayanihan spirit” ng mga Pinoy. “Makatulong lang kahi’t konti,” katwiran nila.
kung walang volunteers, ano ‘to, komiks?
From Stella Arnaldo’s blog:
“At the offices of many civic groups and private organizations, hundreds of people showed up to volunteer in packing relief goods.
At the Tulong Bayan center at the Expo Centro in Cubao, Most of the volunteers were adolescents as young as 10 years old, along with their kuya or ate in high school and college.
They came in huge numbers, many of them barkadas, classmates or siblings, dressed just in their tees and shorts, wearing their Havaianas. All were just enthusiastic to do their share! Photos by Leah Navarro

GMA asked world for donations
Our government begged the world for more donations. Sumagot ang buong mundo sa ating panawagan. In less than three weeks, dumaong ang mga barko, ibinaba mula sa mga cargo planes, i-diniliver ng mga trak at container vans ang sandamakmak na relief goods. Cash donations were in the millions of dollars.
But these donations must be coursed through DSWD
Nagpalabas ng directive ang pangulo. Individuals, private companies and other nations were ENCOURAGED to send their donations to DSWD. I blogged
about it here and the video of her announcement here.
This PGMA directive sounded suspicious to me then. Now I know why. Here’s the story.
A group of eight people, your ate Ella included, went to one of DSWD warehouses to help in repacking relief goods. We know they need volunteers pero hindi namin akalaing WALANG TAO TALAGA SA LOOB NG WAREHOUSE!
As in sa isang humongous warehouse (1000++ sq.m) NA PUNONG-PUNO NG RELIEF GOODS HANGGANG BUBONG, ISANG DSWD employee lang at ISANG SECURITY GUARD ang tao!!
Kailangang magpa-register at i-schedule ang volunteering
1) UNICEF Registration (as a volunteer)
The warehouse can only take as much as 50 volunteers at a time or per shift. Here you will find that there is a 4-hour shift, and an option for a 6-hour shift for the volunteers to indicate their availability.
What “volunteers”? Nasaan?
Aside
from the 8 of us? Nope, there was nobody there.
I know somebody who wanted to volunteer many times. She was always bumped off, laging nirere-schedule kasi “there were too many volunteers” daw. At tuwing Sunday lang daw puwede. What the hell is going on here?
The relief goods are not going anywhere
We arrived at about 8 am and left by midafternoon and yes, you guessed it right. Walang ibang dumating.
The relief goods are not
moving.. By the way things look, they are not going anywhere.
LET THE PICTURES DO THE TALKING
I wonder why.
walang tao 2 “Not a creature was moving, not even a mouse.” walang tao Parang haunted warehouse ang dating.

Sayang ‘yung imported.
kumot Ano kaya ang laman nito? Hindi rin pinabuksan.
Pang-special victim din kaya ito? (teka, dito nga pala galing ‘yung mga kumot)
jica Error! Filename not specified. Mahiwagang mga kahon from Japan Aid.
“Imported” are not included, we have concluded.
pork and beans Error! Filename not specified. PORK AND BEANS? Yup, you’d think kasama ito sa relief bag. Pork and beans lang ‘to, puwede na sigurong ipamigay,
close up pork and beans Naaah! “Imported” pork and beans from Spain po ito. Sorry, hindi pa rin included
Now let’s take a look at what a victim will get from DSWD
How generous! Kaldero ang unang ilalagay sa sako. Sabong panglaba (bar soap) at sampung sardinas sa ilalim. Siyam na sabon sa gilid ng kaldero. Local goods lahat syempre.

Do not delay
Error! Filename not specified. YOU THINK?? WTF is the matter with these people? ISANG BUWAN!! Do you mean “do not delay ang dati nang delayed”?? Shet.
Halatang-halata.
Marami pang
pabubulukin
Wow! May bagong shipment na naman! At the rate DSWD is moving, next year na madi-discover kung ano ang laman ng mga kahong ito.
nutri biscuit “The first of two of the largest high-energy food shipments from the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) arrived in the country two days ago for victims of storm “Ondoy” and typhoon “Pepeng.”
The biscuits were fortified with essential vitamins and minerals for supplementary feeding to children, pregnant women and the elderly in evacuation camps. Another 100 tons of biscuits will arrive on Oct. 24, in a continuing effort to provide food assistance to flood victims.
Sige, ideretso ‘nyo ulit ‘yan sa DSWD warehouse. Para AMAG naman ang abutin ng biskwit…
at sapot ng gagamba.
Conclusion
At nandoon pa rin sa loob ang mga imported relief goods, safe, sound and packed as the day they arrived.
Millions of dollars in donations, walang extrang pang-gasolina.
I’m sure they are more than willing to help. Time is of the essence. Huwag kayong suwapang.
You are the government. You have the power, the resources and the money. You just have to really care.

The
Ateneo de Naga University, as an institution committed to a shared goal
of promoting quality education within the context of a democratic and
pluralistic society, hereby expresses its reservations about the
following CHED initiatives:
NAHEI Academic and Cultural Festivals
CHED National Games.
The
planning and organization of these initiatives have been driven by
well-meaning intentions on the part of the CHED National Office and the
other parties involved. Its eventual implementation may well be also
motivated by good intentions but under the current circumstances, our
institution respectfully registers its objection with the intention of
clarifying some contentious issues.
The
aforementioned projects have been conceptualized with very little
regard for consultation and genuine collaboration with the
stakeholders. They have been largely a product of a top-down approach
to management, which debilitates or defeats the very purpose of an
organization—for the mutual benefit of member-institutions.
The
concept of the establishment of Regional Associations of Higher
Education Institutions (RAHEI) as provided in A Roadmap to Quality
Higher Education: A New Philippine Education Highway enumerates the
following avowed objectives of RAHEIs, which eventually comprise the
NAHEI:
“[t]o promote the interests of education in the Philippines towards the total development of the human person through the higher educational institutions’ initiatives and consistent with national goals expressed in the Constitution;
xxxxx
to represent the interests of colleges and universities in the Philippines before the Commission on Higher Education and other government offices and/or agencies, before the general public, as well as before international bodies;
xxxxx
to
foster closer relationships among member schools, colleges and
universities and to encourage and develop acquaintance among their
authorized representatives as an opportunity for greater service to the
student population all over the country to encourage as much as possible mutual consultation on particular problems”; (emphasis supplied)
Clearly,
the above-quoted objectives (note the parts in bold letters) of
RAHEIs/NAHEI give primacy to consultation and mutual engagement of all
member-institutions. However, the current development in relation to
the operations of the RAHEIs/NAHEI and the involvement of CHED as an
institution disregards, wittingly or unwittingly, these principles of
consultation and maximum participation of the concerned parties.
Both
the NAHEI Academic and Cultural Festivals and the CHED Games have been
conceptualized and enfleshed without or more charitably, with very
little knowledge and participation of the private higher education
institutions. Such lack of consultation appears to be the reason why
the organizers have failed to see the financial, logistical or academic
ramifications of the projects’ implementation. These consequences of
varying degree of seriousness will certainly be borne not only by the
school administrators but also by the students and parents. The
following are the identified potential problems:
Added (Undue) Financial Burden
The
projects, once implemented, will surely entail a considerable amount of
money. The funds will be needed to defray expenses to be incurred not
only during the actual competitions but also during the preparation at
the school level prior to the competition, such as training,
transportation, allowances, costumes, uniforms, among others.
Currently,
Ateneo de Naga University, on its part is already exacting P50.00 per
student as PRISAA fee. This fee is utilized to finance the training and
competitions of athletes during the PRISAA meet.
The Handbook for Academic and Cultural Festivals under the segment heading “Membership, Fees and Dues”
provide that “membership with RAHEI is by accreditation only. Only duly
accredited NAHEI member-schools are eligible to participate in NAHEI
competitions and authorized to collect fees from students.”(emphasis
supplied) Under the segment on fees and dues, the same document
provides that a one-time membership fee of P5,000.00 upon application
and annual dues of P 2,000.00 every year thereafter shall be collected
from member-schools. Under the segment heading, “Financial Management and Control”,
the sources of funds do not include any subsidy or budget that will be
given by the government through CHED to finance the projects and
programs of the Association, notwithstanding the fact that based on
existing records, the formation of such Association was clearly a CHED
initiative. Moreover, the Minutes of the NAHEI Board Meeting held on
16 September 2009 provides that one of the issues raised by some of the
attendees was the fee for the CHED National Games, Academic and
Cultural competitions. The minutes of the meeting provided that the
contribution from students in private higher institutions shall be P
100.00 per semester and P 15.00 per semester for students in State
Universities and Colleges.
The
immediately preceding paragraph clearly supports the contention that
the funding of these projects will be imposed upon the students and
parents without any prior, adequate and comprehensive consultation.
This impending financial burden must be appreciated in the light of a
population that, for the most part, has been in a continued struggle to
finance quality education.
Another
major factor which supports a call to reconsider the viability of
pursuing these ambitious projects is the actual conditions of Luzon and
even other parts of the country. A substantial part of the country has
been ravaged by natural calamities and some of the victims have not
even started bouncing back due to lack of means to do so. If the two
national events will be implemented as planned, they may prove to be
insensitive to the plight of those who have greatly suffered due to the
most recent calamities.
A
part of the declared rationale for the CHED National Games enunciates
that, “[A]s mandated by law, all educational institutions shall
undertake regular sports activities throughout the country in
cooperation with athletic clubs and other sectors.” The schools across
the country have already been involved in various sports activities
with different athletic organizations. That alone is already costly but
is still being undertaken in recognition of the value of sports in the
integral formation of the human person. But to impose another national
sports event or academic and cultural competition, which will not be
financed by the government but by the students instead will already be
superfluous in its intent and impractical in its actual implementation.
Logistical Concerns
There
is an obvious haste in the conceptualization and planning of these two
major events under the auspices of NAHEI and CHED. This can be gleaned
from the available records.
The
records of the NAHEI Board of Trustees Meeting on 16 September provides
that on 7 August 2009 organizational meeting, the proposed integrated
academic and cultural competitions for NAHEI member-schools effective
AY 2009-10 has been unanimously considered/approved during the said
meeting. The fact that the said calendar covering AY 2009-1020 has been
approved after the current academic year has already commenced speaks
of a hasty process and an apparent desire to ensure that these events
be done at the soonest possible time, without any declared reason. A
more prudent and careful way of planning these events would necessitate
approval of the events prior to the current academic year. This will
provide adequate time for consultation, coordination and preparation.
Given
the complexity of the manning and operation of the two national events,
and the necessary preparations on the part of member-schools, it will
be onerous to expect the member-schools to effectively participate in
these undertakings. The preparations will entail funding,
identification of persons responsible for the events per school,
recruitment of players or contestants, scheduling of the training, and
still other logistical concerns.
The status quo
already presents a clear case of faculty saddled with various academic
and non-academic concerns. With the current teaching load of eighteen
units (18) units per semester and some institutional or departmental
commitments, they will be unduly burdened if they will still be
required to attend to and supervise the training of student-athletes
and competitors. This would also divest them of the time they could
rightfully spend attending to academic consultations and research.
Clearly, these were not taken into consideration by the organizers,
otherwise, more foresight could have prompted them to defer or conduct
massive consultation with member-schools prior to the planning and
organization.
Implications on the Academic Formation of the Students
Given
the current context-- that there are already various events where
different schools compete-- the preparation and actual deployment of
students who will be joining the academic, cultural and sports
competition in question will create another set of interruptions that
will veer them away from their academic undertakings. Considering that
the second semester starts on November, which is still part of the
rainy, if not, typhoon season, it will not be practical and favorable
for the student to be compelled to train rather than be required to
stay focused in their studies. The initial leg of the second semester
is naturally contingent. Interruptions of classes must be kept at a
very strict minimum. Besides, one of the fundamental policies of CHED
is to ensure that “all institutions of higher learning shall exemplify
through their physical and natural surroundings the dignity and beauty
of, as well as their pride in, the intellectual and scholarly life.” (emphasis supplied)
As has been strongly articulated by the Chairman of CHED himself, the
role of CHED is to “attain the highest levels of quality in higher
education”. Undoubtedly, two of the fundamental pillars of quality
education is instruction and research. CHED itself has been regularly
updating its policies, standards and guidelines governing various
academic programs to fine tune them even more. This special leaning of
CHED towards improving both instruction and research is commendable.
These priority areas must not be drowned in the extra-curricular
activities that could possibly and unduly deplete the higher education
institutions' attention and resources. Furthermore, CHED has been very
strong in promoting the extension of academic programs from four years
to five years, in recognition of the need to be globally competitive.
Clearly, this move to increase the number of academic years will also
create an increase in the number of academic days but with the
interruptions in the actual classroom instruction as a consequence of
the participation in the two national events, this additional number of
contact hours will just be dissipated and will consequently be put to
naught.
Notwithstanding
our reservations as substantiated by the foregoing reasons, we would
also like to respectfully know the implication of non-participation in
the NAHEi Academic and Cultural Competition and the CHED National
Games. This specific issue was not explicitly explained in any of the
handbooks providing the guidelines for both events. There was no
categorical statement describing whether participation in these events
is mandatory. Considering that the two documents setting forth the
rules in the said national events are silent as to this specific issue,
we hereby ask for an unequivocal pronouncement from your office.
Under
the segment heading, “Termination of membership”, one of the grounds
for termination of membership in the NAHEI is non-participation in
NAHEI activities.
Another document explaining the creation of RAHEI/NAHEI provides that
“[i]ncentives granted by CHED such as scholarships for faculty
development, student scholarships and financial assistance will be
coursed through CHED Regional Offices in coordination with the Regional
Association of HEIs (RAHEIs)”.Will
the non-participation of an higher education institution be construed
as a cause for termination and, consequently, prevent the institution
concerned from receiving scholarships and other financial assistance
from CHED? We suggest that this issue be taken with greater
circumspection and due regard to existing laws as this is directly
linked with the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of association and
the equal protection clause.
Finally, we express our
sincerest gratitude for having acknowledged and read this paper. We
strongly hope that the CHED will consider the basis for our objections
and provide space for a more meaningful engagement and genuine
collaboration in the attainment of our common goals.

Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue
I will continue to forward this every time it comes around!
STROKE:
Remember the 1st Three Letters.... S. T. R.
STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics). She said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.
They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening
Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 PM Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a
helpless, hopeless
condition instead.
It only takes a minute to read this...
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours,
which
is tough.
RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S *Ask the individual to SMILE. T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today.) R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call
emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue
NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side
or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.
A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

They end up in a helpless, hopeless
condition instead.
It only takes a minute to read this...
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which
If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.
A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.
Thanks coach! Simple yet power-packed. I will share this with the team right away. Powerful, very empowering email.
There is always a doze of boost when talking to you. Thanks

Your Destiny Is Built on Daily Habits
In a normal day, almost everything we do is done out of habit. Almost every day we get up about the same time and go through a familiar routine. Out of habit, we take the same route to work, eat lunch about the same time, and run familiar errands every week. Of course, there are minor variations if we run into road construction or have an early breakfast meeting, but habits help us organize our lives.
Habits simplify everything. Imagine if you woke up with no idea where the bathroom might be, what your schedule was, or what responsibilities you faced. Life would be stressful beyond belief! Fortunately, we have "ordinary routines" that help us navigate through the day.
The key is that while habits help us organize! e our daily routines, some habits also help us achieve our most important goals, while other habits undermine us every step of the way. There is little difference in time or effort between reading a book or watching TV, but there may be an enormous difference
in how these habits impact our lives.
Successful people carefully choose even their smallest and most routine daily habits with an eye on the long-term consequences.
And here's a vital point-habits start as very simple choices. There's an old poem that goes something like this:
Sow a thought, and reap an action. Sow an action, and reap a habit. Sow a habit, and reap a character. Sow a character and reap a destiny!
Think about the power of that sequence! To a remarkable degree our success or failure is the long-term result of simple thoughts and ordinary daily habits.
So, why not intentionally ! choose daily habits or "disciplines" that take you where you want to g o in life? Here are a few examples.
Many people get in the habit of listening to sports or talk radio while they commute and of course there's nothing wrong with that. But other people get in the habit of listening to inspirational or educational CD's, and over time, they benefit from that easy daily habit.
Or how
about people who routinely grab a hamburger and fries for lunch, while others habitually
reach for an apple and salad? Some people habitually come home and turn on the TV, while others go for a run, mow the lawn or do homework with the kids. Any of these choices are "easy" but over time, some habits create better outcomes than others. Some people have the habit of spending, while others choose the habit of saving and investing. Either option is easy, but they have very different long-term results.
For years I've had "7 Daily Habits" that I've summarized in a "code" that has powerful meaning for me. My Daily 7 are: ! "Read, Write, Walk, Work, Nest, Network, and Fun." Each word stands for a habit that I want in my life and over the years, these "code words" have become powerful habits. They have helped me grow as a person, enrich my
marriage,
build my business and achieve dozens of important goals. My "Daily 7" are habits that help me live the life I want.
Choose simple, positive habits that will enhance your life. Reduce them to clear, specific actions you habitually take every day. Develop your own list of positive habits that automatically move you toward your goals and create the life you want.
For better or worse, life is made of our daily habits. Winners choose habits that reflect their values and move them toward their most important goals. Unfortunately, most people have
habits that are
comfortable, but which actually detract from their most important goa! ls. Don't do that to yourself! To increase your success, you must eliminate every habit that holds you back and replace it with habits that move your forward and reflect your highest aspirations.

The only dream worth having is to live while you are alive and to die only when you are dead. To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget.- Arundhati

As representatives of the future, may you find inspiration in this letter of Ted Kennedy to President Obama.

Text of a letter Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., wrote before his death to send President Barack Obama, as provided by the White House.
___
May 12, 2009
Dear Mr. President,
I
wanted to write a few final words to you to express my gratitude for
your repeated personal kindnesses to me — and one last time, to salute
your leadership in giving our country back its future and its truth.
On
a personal level, you and Michelle reached out to Vicki, to our family
and me in so many different ways. You helped to make these difficult
months a happy time in my life.
You also made it a time of hope for me and for our country.
When
I thought of all the years, all the battles, and all the memories of my
long public life, I felt confident in these closing days that while I
will not be there when it happens, you will be the president who at
long last signs into law the health care reform
that is the great unfinished business of our society. For me, this
cause stretched across decades; it has been disappointed, but never
finally defeated. It was the cause of my life. And in the past year,
the prospect of victory sustained me — and the work of achieving it
summoned my energy and determination.
There
will be struggles — there always have been — and they are already under
way again. But as we moved forward in these months, I learned that you
will not yield to calls to retreat — that you will stay with the cause
until it is won. I saw your conviction that the time is now and
witnessed your unwavering commitment and understanding that health care
is a decisive issue for our future prosperity. But you have also
reminded all of us that it concerns more than material things; that
what we face is above all a moral issue; that at stake are not just the
details of policy, but fundamental principles of social justice and the
character of our country.
And so because of your vision and resolve, I came to believe that soon, very soon, affordable health coverage
will be available to all, in an America where the state of a family's
health will never again depend on the amount of a family's wealth. And
while I will not see the victory, I was able to look forward and know
that we will — yes, we will — fulfill the promise of health care in
America as a right and not a privilege.
In
closing, let me say again how proud I was to be part of your campaign —
and proud as well to play a part in the early months of a new era of
high purpose and achievement. I entered public life with a young
president who inspired a generation and the world. It gives me great
hope that as I leave, another young president inspires another
generation and once more on America's behalf inspires the entire world.
So,
I wrote this to thank you one last time as a friend — and to stand with
you one last time for change and the America we can become.
At the Denver Convention where you were nominated, I said the dream lives on.
And
I finished this letter with unshakable faith that the dream will be
fulfilled for this generation, and preserved and enlarged for
generations to come.

If you don't forward this___you don't have a heart!
Dear All,
Pray for this child.
Alexandra came out of a fire alive, but now has to fight for her life and a normal future. She is 14 months old and she has burnt skin all over her body, damage facial bones (as a result of very high temperature) . She does not have half of her face. She is in hospital in Krakow-Poland and one of the best specialist is looking after her. However she still has to go through many surgeries and then long rehab. Unfortunately her parents do not have any more money.
Therefore we are asking for your help. For each forwarded email her parents will get 3 cents. Please help them and forward that email to as many people as you can!
How many ways can we count our blessings?
One at a time or all at once? Get updates from your friends in one place.
