>This is AWESOME - Thank you so much. What a track. Even the Women's and doubles
start come out of a tower. Wonder when our National team will get a chance to
ride on the track. I heard that it so beyond expensive to travel there... Maybe
when the money situation improves. Well maybe if they hold a world cup
there...... :)
Kitty Manning and Amy Herschman. They used to slide as well many, many years
ago. We had a race to determine who the 4 Jr's would be to go to Russia. No one
from USA luge had ever gone to Russia before to slide and this was our first
chance to go. The Russians told us we could only send 4 athletes, so we had the
race. Amy actually beat Cameron Myler to make the team. Cameron for some reason
did not have a good race so Amy went. It turned out that the weather was to
warm so they could not hold ice ( THANK GOD ) so we hooked up with the Swedes
and went to their home track: Hammestrand.
I have many stories, Spy Stories, of what happen to us while we were in
Russia... It was really scary and fun at the same time!!!!

want to see all the specs on the track etc.. I saw the new pictures in the
latest Luge News Letter; WOW!!!!!! What is it with the Russian's building luge
tracks that start from a ski jump tower? When Duncan, Kitty, Amy and I (the Jr.
Team, LOL) went to Leningrad in 1982, we were to race on a track that was built
out of wood and literally started out of a 120 meter ski jump tower. The track
continued out over a 300 foot cliff. The track was built on telephone poles that
gradually became lower as it wound its way down. There were no nets so if you
crashed and came out of the track you would fall the 300 feet. No lie!!!! It was
the scariest track, besides IMST, that I have ever seen. Anyway, if anyone has
found a website, please share....:)
