Hi Michel,
Thank you for forwarding the July 14th memo. As you can see, I made no suggestion of posting anyone's personal information on any Web site. The request was strictly for the purpose of awarding National points, and for Ryne and I to know who the Members are, in order to carry on our elected and appointed positions. Can you please remove that information and resend to your undisclosed list.
You and I know very well, that the race Directors of most National ACU events will rely on the ACU for points that are awarded by the ACU. I believe that 90% of the Race Director's don't have a clue (including me), as to who the ACU members are, in their race, unless it is pointed out to them. Even if this were pointed out, it really has nothing to do with that RD, because the ACU are suppose to administrate their own Series, as we have done in the past.
In the past, the Race Directors of the ACU sanctioned National events, didn't have to send any personal information to the points person (Victor or Armand), simply because the points person already had the information available on the "REGISTERED" Member, it was just a matter of awarding points, based on the finishing results provided by the Race Director.
These are not bad times for the ACU, its good times, because we are trying desperately to give all members the opportunity to be involved, communicate with one another, and help play an active roll in shaping the future of this Association, in a positive, and constructive way, on a regular basis.
Michel, as Secretary/Treasurer it is your obligated duty to communicate and provide important information to the Pre/Vice, before you decide to have your own secret (Undisclosed) survey. The faith of the ACU must come from its members directly and not reflected by one person on the Executive.
I have a great deal of respect for your accomplishments in all of the great ultra records that you have achieved, and all that you have done for the ACU over the years, and would hope that we can move forward with greater achievements in communication and problem solving.
I apologise for posting this to the acu100 discussion group, but I have absolutely no other way of understanding who the members are, because of this communication break down. In the next few weeks (After Kelso), we hope to develop a private Members ACU list, and all Members will have the opportunity to be included, by their choice only. I feel confident that this will be the way to go in achieving effective communication, in this Association. There are lots of folks willing to pitch in and support the ACU and National team, we just need to open the door wider, and give our fellow Trail and Ultra Runners the opportunity, to voice their opinion on a CLUB LEVEL = Private List.
Happy Trails,
Tony Martin

the members e-mail address and mailing address, along with their Date of
Birth to track the ACU National Series, and award points. This information is considered by several people, so far, as being personal, and they do not want me to release it. For whatever purpose. You will have to deal with the race directors if you want to obtain this information. I told you hovever that I shall provide you with the nformation the members authorize me to give. And this will be done shortly, as soon as more replies to the survey are coming in.I told you also that until the membership's decision is made on your choice of Interim President, and until the membership has decided or not to request for an early election, I cannot, as secretary, recognize Ryne as the Interim President. Sending to thim cc of my e-mails to you and Armand would be a recognition of your normination. You very well know that right from the beginning of this saga, I wanted to have an early election which I tought this was the best thing which could happened for the ACU. I also mentionned several times, that whoever is elected is fine for me. But an election is needed. All this for the sake of an healthy ACU. Your Secretary has not changed his mind. Again, let's Ryne formally elected, and we will work with him. And with you. I know however that one or two more persons might seek this important appointment. (I am not one of them, please believe me !). So let's have a fair election, as this happenned in the case of President Barrett and Vice-President Martin, on May 11th and we will be able to pursue the noble goals this Association is aiming at.And I think my position is (and will be) very well supported. Replies to the survey received so far (five of them) are in that direction. (Incidentally, Tony, I am keeping of all replies received to support any statement I shall make to you on the results). To reply specifically to an other question of your e-mail: Yes I did survey you and Tony and everyone I have an e-mail address for. .I also mailed the survey for the other members who have no Internet access.Shall be home on Sunday (tomorrow) you could phone me if you feel this useful. Today (Saturday), shall be in and out most of the time.Have a nice weekend.(SORRY FOR THE STYLE OF THIS MESSAGE; HAD TO MAKE TOO MANY POINTS AT THE SAME TIME ON A SHORT E-MAIL, AND AS YOU KNOW, ENGLISH IF NOT MY NATIVE LANGUAGE !).Your faithful Secretary----- Original Message -----From: tony martinTo: Victor Hickey ; Hickey.VW@... ; Barteaux.BB@... ; Myers, Scott (Canada) ; Jim Morrison ; Jim Morrison ; acu100k@yahoogroups.com ; Les Michalak ; Michelgouin2001@... ; Michel Careau ; Armand Leblanc ; Armand Leblanc ; Michel Careau ; acu100k Moderator ; ryne melcherSent: Saturday, July 23, 2005 1:18 AMSubject: Re: Survey on ACU MattersHi Michel,Please make the correction to your inaccurate announcement.I did not request the memberships personal information to be posted to the ACU Web Site, such as DOB, E-mails, or Mailing addresses, as you mention in your address to the undisclosed list, of which I am assuming is the entire membership with e-mails. If you have that e-mail, please share it with all of us.Last week I requested information that was for the purpose of figuring out who the members are in the ACU, since you don't want to share any information with the Vice President or Interim President thus far , so that I could do the Job that past Vice President Victor Hickey handed over to me, in calculating the National ACU Series points for members participating in the National ACU Series ONLY.However, I did mention that it would be nice to have members names, and Regions posted to the web site, only for the purpose of Members knowing where their fellow ACU Member's come from across this Country, posted to the Web Site. This idea would be directed only by the Member (If we ever get it off the ground).I am sure that this is an over sight on your behalf and can understand that we all make errors, as we don't live in a perfect world.I would never request an ACU Members personal information to be posted on any Web Site, and I am totally aware of the privacy Act, involved in such an outrageous request or action. *Please take the time to read your e-mails carefully before jumping to the inaccurate conclusions. The survey is a great idea, but you will have to communicate with myself and Ryne Melcher, if we are to move forward. So far you have not included our VOLUNTEER Interim President in any of your Correspondence and this is not being fear or giving Ryne Melcher the opportunity to prove to us all, that he can make a difference in the Association. In the spring nobody ran for the position of ACU President because nobody claimed to have the time to commit. Ryne has lots of time on his hands, so let the work begin, rather than drag everyone threw another ACU Election (3 month process). Most people I speak to are willing to accept Ryne to his appointed position. Please, lets get on with progress not politics.I mention earlier that I don't feel comfortable in addressing the 100kyahoo list, But the reality is that you are not doing anything to assist myself or Ryne in reaching out the existing Member's. My two year commitment will be short lived, if we are unable to communicate as an Executive.I would appreciate clarification on your announcement to all members, as I do have a respectable reputation, in this sport.Kind Regards,Tony MartinACU VP519-742-3513----- Original Message -----From: Michel CareauSent: Friday, July 22, 2005 2:53 PMSubject: Survey on ACU MattersDear ACU Member,
Please find herewith an information document and a survey on two important questions. If you cannot deal with the Adobe document, please let me know and I shall mail you the attachment by regular mail, just as I do for those who have no Internet access.
