Re: [actionbent] Re: [RBENT] Digest Number 207- Recommend the Action Bent Yahoo group

I had the opertunity to walk my roadrunner home about 2.5 miles in the hot sun after only 15
miles on the bike. It was not due to the rim tape. When I inspected it, it was due to goatheads (thorns)   and not to anything defective with the bike. I   replaced both tubes the rear with a steel reinforced diamond plated tube that weighs about 15 lbs and got a super heavy duty front tube with about 6oz of slime. yes they are heavier but walking sucks andd walking in the hot sun sucks more, and fixing a flat and pumping it back up to 90 lbs in the hot sun is just as bad. As far as the weight yes they are heavier but its lighter than a pump, patch kit and the general pain to fix a flat

Purely anecdotal ....... but i have well over 5000 miles on my JS/one with all original equipment except for clipless pedals.
Only one flat (rear wheel) and that appeared in the side of the tube (however the tube might have been twisted) patched it and it continues to hold pressure well. Being 3 miles from home and uncomfortable walking in cleats I elected to ride home on the flat figuring if I ruined rim, tire or tube they were all replaceable ....... but no detectable damage ....... perhaps because I'm so skinny (125 lbs)
Regards ....... Brian
