Re: Fastest Actionbent

This is an area of discussion. My opinionis that several models
would be considered for title of fastest AB. In this group, the
original TW1, with it's 700c(622mm)/451mm wheelset, the MiddleRacer &
Highracer. Beyond the question of the engine suppling the drive,a
number of factors come into play. Wheels & tires, larger wheels are
reputed to be faster. Taller gears(see wheel size as well as cog sets)
make a bike faster. Skinnyer, higher pressure tires are faster than
fatter, lower pressure tires. Advantage TW1.
The MidRacer presents a very small frontal area, also a factor in
the equation.
The HighRacer also has a smallish frontal area & has two big
wheels, with low spoke count wheels. Those wheels contribute in two
ways, less drag from fewer spokes & less spinning weight. Weight in
general is over rated as a factor in speed, but spinning weight is of
more importance than net weight.
Amoung AB's my money would be on the Middy, but I've never ridden one.
A freind, who owns a bent exclusive shop says he thinks the two
fastest bikes in his shop are the Bacchetta Corsa & Rans V2, he thinks
it" a tossup.

Hello Just a question to the group as I just discovered these AB's but was wondering which model would be one of the fastest bikes. I was thinking the HiRacer...

It really depends on your knees on a recumbent. I wouldn't hop on one thinking that you're going to be fast right from the get go, it takes time to get your...

I understand the knees and all and I have a EZ1 now so I have been getting the legs as you say. I was riding with a guy who had 26 inch wheels and he just blew...

I think you will find that it is not wheel size as much as the quality of components. My wife rode an EZ1 and I had a Canto and on downhill runs I would always...

All due respect here. I couldn't agree with you less about component quality affecting speed. Better components tend to be lighter, prettier & perhaps longer...

Heaven forgive me, but I must agree with Andre' on this one (for those who are new to this group, Andre' & I seem to rarely agree). My comment was in reference...

Just based on pix & specs I'd say Rail Metro. To my eyes, it looks like it would be a touch more user friendly than the High Racer and I doubt you'd feel any...

If wheel size is so important, why don't we see more "ordinary" bicycles with 48" wheels? Bikes with small wheels like Moulton have set world records. The size...

All gearing is a point of energy loss, the use of smaller wheels has the advantage of strength an aerodynamics, but the disadvantage of requiring a much more...

I'd say this depends a little on the geography of where you live. If you live somewhere flat, then aerodynamics will be more important than weight. In this...
