Hi Rose,
I've got one from your list: Cadogan's "Encyclopedia of Heraldry". I have two
more which aren't on the list as well: Fox-Davies' "Heraldic Designs" and
"Complete Guide to Heraldry".
I've had these since just before the move (which is why they're not properly
signed out) and am still working with them, but if anyone else needs them let me
know.
cheers
Jennifer Landels
They were in today taking photos of the Saturday class and doing an
Interview with myself and a few students. Should be a thorough
article and they'll be posting an online photo gallery with the
version to be posted on their website.
If you have a chance to grab a Province be sure to do so!

Hey all!
There are some library books that seem to have sneaked away from their shelves.
Here's the MIA list:
1. Concise Encyclopedia of Heraldry by Guy Rothery
2. Special Forces, Ranger, UDT, Seal Hand-to-Hand Combat, Special Weapons,
Special Tactics Series: Knife Self-Defense for Combat by Michael Echanis
3. British and Foreign Arms and Armour by Charles Ashdown
4. Schools and masters of fencing : from the Middle Ages to the eighteenth
century by Egerton Castle
5. Rules and Regulations for the Sword Exercise of the Cavalry 1796 by The War
Office, Adjutant-Generals Office
If you have them or have any clues as to their whereabouts please let us know.
There's a whole checkout system for our books now so be sure to check out the
books available next time you're at Duello!
Also, check out our library website at
http://www.librarything.com/profile/AcademieDuello
Today at the Academie we were visited by an excellent couple from our
neighbours to the south. Stationed at Fort Lewis, Chris and his wife
Carrie mentioned that they stopped in at Academie Duello, while on
vacation in Vancouver, because they'd read a recent article about us
on the Soldier Systems blog (www.soldiersystems.com). The blog itself
sounded interesting enough to check out on its own and a bit of vanity
is always a pleasure. You can check out their blog and their post
about us here - http://soldiersystems.net/2009/11/28/academie-duello/
I like your thinking Aynsley :)

Yes, I think that it would be nice for everyone to look as sharp as they want.
It would be a nice change to see what everyone looks like when they aren't all
sweaty and such.

Hello all,
It is that time of year again and that means the opportunity for seasonal festivities!
We will be hosting the Academie Duello Christmas Party v.2009 on Saturday December 19th at our downtown location, 412 W. Hastings Street from 6pm until midnight (or later????).
There will be food, drink, special activities, dancing and general merry making for all!
The party will be a potluck set-up so if you have any special recipes that you want to showcase now would be the time to do it! We will have need for salads, appies, main courses, desserts (gingerbread castles?) and vegetarian options (please provide allergy and ingredients information when possible). Additionally, there will be prizes for the best dishes as chosen by you!
There will also be a special one-hour Mensur Sabre workshop, taught by Braun McAsh, so if you are interested bring your sabres and gloves! There will be limited room so sign-up early if you
want to take it.
After the workshop and weapons related activities we will open up the bar and get to cutting a rug, so bring your dancing shoes.
The schedule will be as follows:
1800-2000 hours - Party, activities and potluck begins. 2000-2100 hours - Mensur Workshop with Braun. 2100-???? hours - Bar opens, dancing begins.
Cost: $10 per person for entrance and an additional $10 if you intend to take the workshop.
As we will have a somewhat limited amount of room there is now a sign-up sheet at the front desk if you are interested in attending. When you do sign-up please inform us what type of food you would be intending to bring.
We will also have need of volunteers to help us with some of the logistics so if you have the time, inclination or special expertise please let us know you can lend a hand. We have need of help with the following positions:
Door guy Bartender Cleanup Bussing
Music - additional points for a sound system Setup - starting at 1600 hours
Hello everyone!
For those of you who were thinking of getting a copy of Tom Leoni's Fiore
translation, we've just finished up a deal with Tom to get copies into the
store. If you are interested, send me an email and I'll see a copy put aside
for you.
The books should be arriving next week, and we've only got ten coming in, so
speak up soon!

Hey all,
Just a few corrections here to our notices of upcoming workshops. The sign-up
sheets all had the correct information, but the flyers in the window and under
the glass on the front desk both had a few errors. With that in mind, here are
the dates/times/prices for the workshops through January:
NOVEMBER
29th Sun, 10am-2pm Longsword - $60
29th Sun, 3pm-7pm Sword & Shield - $60
DECEMBER
13th Sun, 1pm-4pm Umbrella Self Defence - $45
20th Sun, 10am-6pm Falconry - $140
JANUARY
10th Sun, Noon-4pm Intro to Swordplay - $60
24th Sun, 10am-2pm Grappling - $60
24th Sun, 3pm-7pm Knife to Knife - $60
31st Sun, 10am-6pm Engaging Multiple Enemies - $120
The archery workshop that was scheduled for January 17th has been moved back to
February 7th, 10am-4:30pm and will be $120.
See you on the floor,
Roland

When is the christmas party this year? I've got a couple bottles of wine
sitting on my shelf that might make an appearance.

If you want a live band I'm sure Chris's band the Ringtones could be coerced
into playing a set or two. They've got their own sound system (which can be
used for canned music as well), and will generally play for food and beer if
asked nicely.
If you're interested let me know and I'll see if they're available.

Hey all,
We've got full-length arms back in the store!
For those of you who bought our earlier arms without rarebraces, feel
free to bring your arms in for rarebrace upgrades if want it, just
$80.00 for members.
Also keep an eye out for new upcoming armour products: full legs,
collarbone gorgets, and maybe even full-torso leather armour.

Greetings all,
We have a few projects to be put underway at the Academie that
could use some able help to complete. The plan is to work on this on
Friday during the day (starting at around 10am) and if people were
available at any point tomorrow I am willing to start anytime if
someone's willing to come lend me a hand.
The projects are the following:
Completing the Cubbies: Building new screens and properly tacking on
the backing for the cubbies so we can have a good and serviceable
change area.
Skills needed: Ability to wield a hammer. If anyone has experience
with a table saw that would be great too.
Building Echo Dampening Baffles: The red things you see on the one
side of the salle. We want to complete those on the opposite side to
further dampen our echo chamber.
Skills needed: Hammer wielding. Those with drilling ability and skill
saw ability would be good too.
Completing the Step Between the upper and lower area, stage 1: Doing
floor rips for the facing side of the step that divides the upper and
lower area.
Skills needed: Ability to use a table saw.
If you are available and have the skills I could sure use the help and
I think we'll all enjoy the benefits of these renovations being
completed. Please let me know if you're available to come out
tomorrow (Thursday) or on Friday morning.

The book has arrived and we've unboxed it and done our first perusal
of its pages. I have posted an article and a video on our blog and
YouTube channel. Check it out here -

The book should be on display at the studio sometime in the next
couple weeks for all to see.

Academie Duello's store continues to grow as each new product hits the shelves.
This week we got in our first shipment of Osprey books, a fine line of
well-researched books that span military history from the ancient world to
modern times. With series that specialize on fortifications, campaigns,
military technology and soldiers from all parts of history and the world, and
books that feature full-colour, highly detailed illustrations as well as
comprehensive maps and both colour and black-and-white photographs, these are
not to be missed.
We've started off by bringing in a good spread focusing on Europe and the Near
East from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance. Drop in to check out our
titles, and be aware that if there's anything that we don't have we can always
order it in for you.
See you in the store!
