Thanks Devon, but I must pass the thanks on to Greg who actually came
up with the design in the throes of Adam, Maureen and I trying to be
"arty". I just finished off the engineering.
I do have a request to anyone who does any sort of woodworking: if you
have a 1/2" wood bit that would be suitable for boring holes (LOTS of
them) into oak AND you feel like letting us borrow it (and, err,
perhaps mutilate it), please let me know. I am planning on buying a
better one than I had but I'm a-thinking we might need a few....
Thanks all!

This past Saturday with the help of Adam, Anna, Jason, Michael, and
Todd we were able to complete phase 1 of erecting new wall hangers for
swords and masks. (thanks guys! Jason thanks for all your help with
designing and setting up the racks). You will see the first stage of
the assemblies if you're out at class early this week. Please do not
put any weight on them yet (there is no where to hang your swords yet,
they'll make more sense soon).
When completed each rack will vertically support a fair number of
swords and masks and of course add to the beauty of our school. This
week we'll be gradually completing these racks.
Continuing with our weekly renovations, next Saturday after class we
will again be continuing to renovate. If you would like to help make
Academie Duello a greater and more beautiful place, come on out and
give us a hand.
Next weekend's projects:
- Stage 1 of member's lounge renovations
- Completion of sword racks
- Creating shields and other items to augment the walls
- Stage 1 preparations for chandeliers
There is much pizza and swordfighting to be had for our helpers, come
out and join us.

From what I understand, rapier fighting, heavy fighting and dance will be

count toward our team total.
The Relay for Life is a community celebration where individuals raise funds
to fight cancer. At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminary

Thank you for your interest in the lightsaber photos. That night was more fun that I expected!
The set on flickr.com of the lightsaber photos is more complete than the one on facebook. Also I edited a few & uploaded them with the originals so that the difference could be seen. Let me know which of the 91 photos are your favorites, or even the 53 of the cord test.
Also I want to thank Ashley Lavoie for taking the lightsaber photos & Kavita P. for taking the cord test photos with my camera. Both events are on my site on flickr.
If we can get more people to come for a Friday lightsaber night, either to participate or just to watch, it will be even more fun than last Friday night. Just contact me & tell me on which Friday night you can come.
Someone forgot their keys at Academie Duello last night. They were
left on the windowsill at the far end of the hall. The keychain has
an orange bottle opener, two small lock/cabinet keys, 3 standard keys
and a few other little knick knacks. Let me know if they're yours.
They'll be in the file box at the studio.
Also currently in the filebox is a wearable usb mp3 player. Silver
with buds. Let me know if this belongs to you. It was found no the
coffee table a few days ago.

Renovations continue... This weekend we're building sword and mask
hangars for the walls and we need hands to help with assembly and
mounting. If you're available after class on Saturday for the
afternoon to early evening let me know.

May will be an odd month for Lionsgate Rapier Practice - due to scheduling conflicts our classes will run every second week - May 3rd, May 17 and May 31. Sorry for any inconvenience.
There WILL NOT be practice this week (May 24) Last practice had a great turn-out - 14 fighters - we ran melee drills all practice. If we continue to see these numbers I'll include some melee drills every practice that has the numbers.

Sad news about the pirates demo. We were not able to get it setup
with Paramount, their recent shift in management has caused them to
cut down on additional activities right now. They invited us to come
out and demo for future sword fighting movies they're keeping this
opening low key. :(
Thanks everyone for being available. We attempted to setup demos at
several places but did not have luck this time round. There will be
many more great demo opportunities coming up over the next few months.
Stay tuned.

The new Cavalier Boots are
listed on http://www.wmasupply.com.
After wearing them all weekend at May Crown I can say that they are VERY nice.
About 1pm or so on Saturday my feet were really starting to hurt, but by the
end of the day (and all day Sunday) they fit great. J
If anyone is going to be coming south at all over the next week
I can get some sent up there – or I can go ahead and ship to anyone that is
interested.

Yes in fact I do know where you can get some
period boots. Justin is going to send a bunch up to us soon, cavalier

Hey Devon, I would love to be part of the thursday

closing that night (meaning off around 10:30)... I just wanted to make
sure you didn't want people there really early so I had time to go
home and dress up.
As a side note, do you or anyone else know where I can get some good
period-looking shoes or more importantly, boots? Its pretty much all
that's missing from my outfit. Thanks!

Hey James! Longtime no see. Figures a pirates demo would get you out of the woodwork. :)
I will send more details once I have them confirmed. A free pass to the movie will be included.
If everyone lets me know what showtimes they can do then we might be able to do a thursday night and a Friday opening thing or whichever works for the most people.
Forward any more details to me. Will it get us a fee pass to the screening?

Hello all,
We're working on setting up a few demos for Pirates 3 this week.
Paramount theatre is very interested in having us and are confirming
it with their General Manager we should know if we're on hopefully by
tomorrow or early Tuesday. If we do the demo there it would probably
be the Thursday midnight opening.
We also have an opportunity to do Metrotown as well, for Thursday or Friday.
Who all is interested in potentially doing a demo at either of these
openings? Costumes would be required (your own or acquired). Let me
know right away when you'd be available.
Thanks!
Devon
Tomorrow is Victoria day, so no classes...except!
We are having the Empire Days Workshop from 10-6 (or 4, we'll see...)
What better way to celebrate Queen Victoria's holiday than by studying
the martial arts of Victorian England.
It's a great chance to come and learn all that fun sabre stuff that
some of us are playing with!
