Just a note on the sparring classes...
Sparring will take place after class during the open workout
time. We will be teaching point sparring, the type you will
encounter in matches. We will teach both taekwondo rules and kenpo
rules since here in the midwest the majority of the tournements are
taekwondo. Sparring will not be a requirement for belt ranks nor
will students be required to participate. This is why it will be
done after the formal class. Additional recommended equipment
includes a mouth piece and a groin protection (athletic supporter &
cup for males or a tuck under plate for females).
Sparring will not be free sparring where both partners take turns
kicking and punching because this gets you into the mindset of
engaging and disengaging your opponent. Point sparring allows for
you to engage your opponent with a bunch of combinations until you
score. Once you score the match is stopped by the referee and both
fighters are brought back to the middle of the ring then the match
is resumed.
