Testing was held August 27th. Congratulations to the following
people on their promotions: Austin H, yellow belt; Alex J, purple
belt; and Kent H, blue stripe.
Please welcome new student Derek J to the dojo. Goodbye to Laura L
who is off to AZ for college. Keep up your training and feel free to
visit any time.
Class Schedule Change: As some of you may have noticed on the
calendar we are going to separate kids and adult classes On Tuesdays
and Thursdays beginning this month on Tuesday September 6th. The
Kenpo Kids class will begin at 6:30 PM and the adult class will begin
at 7:30 PM. We feel that it is important that children have the
opportunity to have dinner with their parents so we don't want to
start any earlier than 6:30 PM. The age cutoff will be age 8. Ages
4 to 7 will be in the kids class and age 8 and above will be in the
adult class. We may make exceptions on a case-by-case basis allowing
students under age 8 to be in the adult class. This also depends on
rank. Parents are still welcome to attend the kids class with your
child. Saturday morning class will still be held at 10 AM and they
will be a combined class. We feel it is important for all dojo
members to know one another and have a chance to train with different
partners. The reason for the change is to allow us to train kids and
adults in a different manner. Everyone will still be exposed to the
same material but the intensity and amount of repetitions will be
increase for adults. We are also asking that senior students (orange
belt and above) help out the instructors. If we could get one senior
student to help per kids class that would be great. If everyone
takes a turn you'd probably only be needed for one class a month.
Also we will be suspending the weekday morning (11:10 AM) classes.
For now the last 11:10 AM class will be held Thursday September
1st.
T-shirts finally arrived. You can wear your t-shirt instead of the
gi top during classes. You still need to wear you gi pants and obi
(belt). You must wear your full uniform for testings however.
You still need to bring water to class. Please have it in a spill
proof container. Just because it's starting to get cooler outside
does not mean that you can't get dehydrated. Also Tony LaPorte
brought in several cases of water so be sure to thank him. With
that, please remember that if you drink a few, bring a few.
Demo Team: We had our first demo team meeting on August 10th. We
came up with some really good ideas and got a lot of things worked
out. The demo team will be open to anyone but please remember that
it will require an added commitment including extra training. The
next meeting will be Monday September 19th at 7 PM. We may being
doing a float for NSU's Gypsy Day Parade which is Saturday October
1st.
Upcoming Events: Kenpo Seminar conducted by Ron Chapel and hosted
by Shaolin Kempo Karate in Omaha, Nebraska . There are three
sessions: 9 AM-1 PM & 2 PM-6 PM on Saturday October 15th and 9 AM-1
PM on Sunday October 16th. Only $50 per session plus discounts are
also available. More info on the flyer on the bulletin board at the
dojo. Also, we are tentatively scheduling our dojo Christmas party
for Thursday, December 22nd at 6 PM. More on this to come but mark
your calendars now.
Again thank you for your business, hard work, and dedicated
training. Keep it up.
