Saturday April 21st live on Spike TV for FREE was UFC 70: Nations
Collide. Some very good fights.
Michael Bisping won against Elvis Sinosic. Andrei Arlovski also won
against Fabrico Werdum although he didn't do as good as I thought he
would.
But the main event truely was the fight of the evening. Mirko Cro Cop
took on Gabriel Gonzaga. Mirko was the pick as he is known for his
explosive powerful kicks. Gonzaga was able to trap a kick thrown by
Cro Cop and put the fight on the ground. Towards the end of the first
round Gonzaga threw a wicked kick to Cro Cop's head, kocking him out.
Yes you read that right...Gonzaga knocked out Cro Cop with a kick to
the head, something that is Cro Cop is known for doing. It was one of
the most surprising upsets of the night. Gonzaga nows gets a shot for
the UFC Heavyweight Title by fighting Randy Couture. This fight
kicked ass!!!
And just a reminder that UFC 71 is May 26th live on PPV. Chuck
Liddell will be fighting Rampage Jackson for the Light Heavyweight
Title.
And be sure to watch The Ultimate Fighter 5 Lightweights (TUF5)
weekly on Spike TV.
Also the June 2007 issue of Black Belt Magazine just hit newsstands.
The cover features BJ Penn, coach of TUF5. The issue is marketed as a
MMA special issue. There are several good articles about BJ Penn and
John Machado. The rest of the issue is okay but is not as much about
MMA as they'd like you to believe. Still worth the $5 though.
And you'll be happy to know that The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) has been
bringing in higher TV ratings than the NBA, NHL or even NASCAR.
