Belt Promotions: No testing was held in December. The next testing
will be held January 30th at 6:45 PM. As always friends and family
are welcome to attend.
Schedule: We will be taking the 2007 class photo on Tuesday January
30th at 6:30 PM right before testing. Everyone should be present and
in full uniform. If you can not make it let me know ASAP so we can
figure out another day to take the photo.
There may be NO CLASS on January 23rd or 25th as Mr. Lammon may be
at a ground fighting & knife defense instructor school at the SD
police academy in Pierre, SD. Announcement will be made in class.
New Students: Please welcome Terry Wacholz to the dojo. Good luck
with your training. Just a reminder that if someone you refer to the
dojo joins you get 10% off your membership dues as long as that
person stays a member. Bring in 2 people and get a 20% discount. We
could use 4 additional students to keep the dojo up and running.
Business: Just a reminder that quarterly and monthly membership fees
are due this month. Please have dues paid by January 9th. If you've
ordered gear or equipment please pay for it right away.
As far as the dojo goes we're going for the gamble. January should
be okay, February will be tight, and March I don't even want to
think about. We should be able to pick up a few more students over
the next few months. I'm thinking about having a tournament in
February. I'm also working with the Aberdeen American News to get
another story on the dojo in the newspaper.
We will also be taking orders for the window decals again that are
personalized with your name. They are only $15 each. We will also
have bumper stickers available for $10 each. My favorite reads "Your
child is a taekwondo black belt - that's cute. Mine studies Kenpo".
We still have some of the new style AKKA t-shirts for sale for $15.
Student manuals are also available for $20. These are quick fixes
but we really need a larger student base.
Upcoming Events: Tentatively February 17th we will be hosting the 1st
Annual Aberdeen Open Karate Tournament. I hope to have it at the
Washington Street Gym. Parents, friends...we will need volunteers at
the registration table and as score keepers, etc. I plan on having
both TKD and Kenpo sparring along with a weapons demonstration
competition. See soon-to-be-posted flyer for more details.
Mr. Sanchez (Clark Taekwondo) has invited our dojo to Puerto Rico
for a tournament and some fun in the sun, April 9th -16th, 2007. The
Olympic sparring taekwondo tournament will be April 14th in San
Juan. Mr. Sanchez is from Puerto Rico and is taking students from
various schools in the area. If you would like to go and need more
info please contact me and I will fill you in on the details. Flyer
posted on bulletin board.
Dojo: We had our Christmas party December 26th and watched Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze. We had pizza and ice
cream and everyone had a good time.
Congratulations to Zack, Shae, JD, Murphy, and Madison who all
completed in the 1st Redfield Taekwondo Tournament that was held
Saturday December 9th. Everyone did a good job and represented the
dojo well.
MMA: Training days and times will be announced during regular
classes. Training is hard. Workouts last around 3 hours and are
tough. We run 2 miles and do hundreds of sit-up just as the warm up.
Traditional Karate: Everyone has been making good progress on kenpo
striking set # 1. Sets allow you to work on flowing from one
technique to another.
Kobudo: I'm going to start working with students in class on bo staff
techniques just as we have worked on baton stuff in the past. We
have a fe at the dojo but I'd recommend you purchase you own. Basic
bo staffs start at $25.
Other: UFC 66 was held December 30th. Chuck Liddell fought Tito Ortiz
for the light heavyweight title. Liddell won the fight and remains
the champion. The next fight is UFC 67: All or Nothing on February
3rd live on PPV.
